Directron's "sale" is over,

Thank god. The way this thread was going one would start to think that this industrial scrap is better than Antec or Enermax. You guys almost convinced yourself it is worth $30. Directron certainly thinks it can sell it to you. I think I am going to order 4 or 5.:p

:) You seem to keep forgetting that you've already crapped in this thread, all those who "know" your PSU expertise have already abandoned this thread to search for a $65+ Enermax.

Now the Delta is not as good a value (at $30) as those PSU you found at Newegg (ignoring the risk of buying refurbs), but that Newegg deal may have been a one-time, limited number of units. If that Newegg deal does happen again, you'll certainly have a popular thread by letting everyone know. Since you mention Antec... Pricewatch current low price for an Antec 300W is $37+ (delivered)... I happen to have one (303XP) in front of me, and comparing the Antec 300W specs or internally, I'd much rather have the Delta unless the host was a P4 system that needs the additional ATX12V connector. Spend more $ and you can get a nice higher-wattage Antec, but then the value goes down again compared to the Delta at $30.

This is a followup to an earlier post. I shoved that giant resistor into the aux where the orange and black wires reside. Plugged the ABIT KT7A back in with NOTHING on the board, touched the power on pins and voila fans are spinning. So it appears that it works with that board with the mod. I still need to hook up this power supply to the server computer I initially had problems with which is an MSI K7T Pro2 Ver 1 to make sure everything is working fine for that. I'm just going to wrap some electrical tape around this resistor to make it stay as my permanent solution and hopefully I can leave it there this time.

Ok, I finally got a chance to swap out the server power supply again after rigging the mod for the Delta power supply. Fired it up and it's running fine for the MSI K7T Pro 2 Ver1. Don't know why the fan fired up just fine on a bare board and I had problems with a populated system. Anyway the bottom line is that it worked with the mod on that particular board. After a couple of hours I checked the resistor that's wrapped in electrical tape. It was a little bit warm. Should I be concerned about that in the long run? This was using 10 ohm 10W resistor @ 10% that I picked up at Radio Shack.

Bought two of the Deltas, used one with a MSI 6340 sdr board-works fine.
Should have ordered a dozen. These are obviously OEM items, the cable lengths are too weird for retail. And they're obviously very high quality, there's some serious beef in there- the chokes, sinks, capacitors and transistors are very much high end, more along the lines of a 450w unit.

The issues with not starting up because of no current draw on the 3.3v line are related to the low 5v issues on those same boards with some otherwise known good psu's, namely Enermax. It seems to me that any of the overclocking boards that allow i/o voltages higher than 3.3v don't use the 3.3v at all, they derive it from the 5v, causing regulation/startup problems in some psu's. Been a lot of talk on the AthlonMB forums on this issue..... It's not the psu's, it's the boards, particularly some Abit and Epox models.

As I understand it, some P4 boards don't use the 3.3v either....

Even at $30, they're a good buy, if you need the power and have compatible hardware, or know how to use a soldering iron. Definitely not junk, not in the least.
