Go see Techb@argains, it involves codes that cannot be posted here. This can't last, can it?

Add 2% ebate bonus and your net is $528, plus tax where applicable.

The $80 LCD free upgrade should not be available if you select no monitor. It's a pricing error but let's see if it go though this time.

How long before we see a sudden "unexplained" surge in the number of Dell flat panels on fleabay?

LOL!

how about those old junky monitors???
What I meant was, usually when Dell has one of their "super" sales, you end up seeing a huge amount of the system/peripheral on sale on ebay. Like, say, you might see a bunch of Dimensions in the EXACT same configuration as the one listed here. I was saying that since you're getting an LCD for $80, you will probably see a lot of people trying to sell them, unless they decide they want to keep them.

I am considering this deal and have analyzed what you are getting. There are savings over component costs, if purchased and assembled alone:

If you look at the component prices, you are buying:
Win XP Prof $130
P4 Chip 2.4GHz $200
48x CDROM $ 30
15" LCD $310
128mb Memory $ 30
Shipping $ 50
Video GF4-MX420 $ 60
40GB HDD $70
Case $ 30

Total $910

And cofigured as above, Dell charges about $ 630 after rebates, discounts, etc. So, this is a savings of at least $280 over component costs.

OK, so you are getting MS Works, a motherboard and a mouse "free" , but these are not "name brand" equipment and often not able to be upgraded easilly. So, they can be considered throw aways. Now on the plus side, of course the labor necessary to put it together and install the software counts for maybe $100 per box which I have not included above. So, all in all, not a really bad deal; certainly "warm" and maybe even "hot".

Don't forget the hard drive . . . the warranty . . . and of course- Dell customer satisfaction. (=

Does anyone know how fast those $100 MIR's show up? I would imagine Dell would be fairly good about it, but I'm still curious...

This seems like a great deal. I might p-u one and ebay the system and keep the 15" flat-panel. :)

The rebates are the only disappointing part of the deal. Dell rebates are VERY slow. You can realistically expect to wait 2-3 months at a minimum. The rebates are procedded by CPG Group (AKA retabtestatus.com) out of Phoenix AZ.

well, do you at least get them? I too was thinking about getting this, selling the system since I just built a new one, but keeping the flat panel, hmm maybe the parents need a new computer?
