I just ordered the 4922 system from satelliteguy.com and cant wait til I can watch TV again..... been without cable or DSS for 4 yrs now and I'm aching to become a couch potato again..... :D hey a little info about the discount for paying a year in advance would be great if you dont mind Rootaxs, the guy I talked to tonight said I could of course pay up front but made no mention of the discount...... just thought I'd throw that out there

<< Optical - I'm thinking of splitting the signal to go my ATI all-in-wonder TV card to record shows, how do I go about doing this with dish tv? I know Cable TV, you can just split the signal. Do I need a separate receiver? The AIW seems to support Satallite TV. >>

Optical, I believe you can feed the signal to your ATI just like a cable signal, but you HAVE to split it FROM the back of the receiver so the signal gets decoded by the satellite box first. I am not positive this will work, but in theory in sounds right. Try splitting the signal AFTER coming out of the dish to the TV to your computer, and let us know how it goes.

I WANT THIS QUESTION ANSWERED TOO...IF YOU PAY THE ENTIRE YEAR'S COST UP FRONT FOR $341, DO YOU ACTUALLY PAY $341 OR JUST $108 FOR THE I LIKE PROMO?

Quick question - I'm ready to buy one of these puppies but I can't find anywhere that it specifically says how much skyview the dish needs. Usually it just says something like (You need a view of the sky blah blah). My house is completely surrounded by trees, somewhat thick however less thick as it gets higher. The front however is not surrounded and I think it is SW pointing skyview. I also live in Portland so dish must point south? or so I have heard. Could use some help here.

Ok, just bought my ribbon coax and now ready to buy. Should buy the 301 or the 501? It's about 30 bucks different.

Sorry Wind Walker, I mean't 4922 not 501. I guess 4922 is worth paying for $30 difference based on what I read from other posts.

<< rootaxs, I'm missing something. At what point do you pay for the whole year to get added discount?
And if you pay upfront, when do you get your money back from Dish Network?
>>

Oh where, oh where are you rootaxs?

ZervunI'm in Eugene, so I'm probably looking at the same satellites. I want to jump on this but I'm not sure exactly how dead on the S/SW direction is (I have a tree in the way).

If I can get this, BYE BYE cable. :)

I just ordered one of the systems, but have a question: has anyone had problem getting the "I like 9" package because they didn't pay $199+ for the system?
From google search, it appears that thesatelliteguy used to have the promotion listed on his website, but it's gone now (can be seen by looking at cached web site).

This is odd. I looked at the page just a few minutes ago and all the prices have shot up. Anyone else seeing this? I'm trying to refresh it now, but it's just hanging.

Hrmmm...

Sorry guys/gals, i initially thought it would work since the first CSR i spoke to gave me that impression. When i called up again today after receiving my first bill they told me if i wanted to avail of the discount then i'd have to revert to the regular pricing.

Something odd happened though, when i offered to pay for 1 year in advance they charged me $117, apparently this is for 13 months of programming (e.g. 1st two months up-front and 12 months annual pre-pay)

Still not bad given this is supposedly a 1 year only deal.

Well it says my azimuth is 245.4 I just don't know where 0 azimuth is etc and which way to count the degrees.
Elevation is pretty simple just can't figure out the azimuth.

Elevation and Skew angles also come into play. Based on my current set-up, say your head is the dish look S/SW while tilting your head a bit to the right (skew - at least in my case) and raising your chin a few degrees (elevation - again dependent on location)

If i remember correctly Azimuth would be either your Elevation or Skew angle. Can't remember it off the top of my head but it's in both installation manuals :)

I'm talking about the annual pre-payment discount that would have brought down your monthly fee from $9/mo to $6.42/mo. Seems you can only apply one promotion at a time.

In any case, $9/mo is still a good deal.

Cool!
I currently have DirecTV and pay $44 for Select Choice + HBO + Cinemax.

With the $9 promotion, I will be able to get 100 channels (upgrade over what I have now) + HBO, Showtime, Starz AND Cinemax for $45!!!
That's a great deal!

I already have 501 PVR from deal in September, but I am moving to a new apartment where landlord wants a professional installation of antenna on the roof. DO you know if DIsh network will have some sort of discounted professional installation in the new place. What would your suggestion be on getting an inexpensive/free install?

YES get the 4922, That's your best bet-it has digital out-grat form your Home theater system, provided your receiver has digital in.

For the 30 buck price difference , well worth it

Anyone have a 501 PVR? Is it noisey???? I got the system installed an noticed the noise right away. They techs said it was normal. My fiance couldn't stand it. The source was the very poor quality Maxtor hard drive they are using. It was very loud...much louder than my PC with 3 fans. It was loud enough that you had to turn up the TV to overcome the noise. I was very disappointed b/c I loved the features of the PVR. I guess I'll look into TIVO. I ended up downgrading to the 301 receiver...this was not an easy task.....Dish Network's CSR's are very inconsiderate and not very caring. I had to jump through several hoops to get this resolved.

Anyone considering a 501 PVR...beware of the noise.

Happy Holidays all....

I have the 501 PVR and it does not seem noisy to me at all. When the TV is off, you can hear the disk spin up or down, but that's about it.
