Thanks everybody for the reply.. I called up Comcast later today and asked the tech rep to provision my new modem and gave him the MAC, S/N numbers. 1 Hour later, everything's hunky-dory and my PC connects to the net just fine ... Great !!!!😀

So it was indeed a provisioning issue. Since many of you folks managed to "plug-and-play" I presumed the same should work for me too. Apparently not.

Also, half the box stickers say 3CR29210 and half say 3CR29220 !!. Plus the MAC number's on the modem and the serial number is on the box... go figure...

Anyhow I am more than happy that the modem worked...

daMachine, thanks a lot for the great deal and the help...

Again thanks everybody for the help and replies...

Yes this deal is hot....

BUT AT&T IS SUCK!!!

They're charging me $9.95 to have my new modem provisioned. What a load of CRAP!

kazanjig, pissed

<< Will this work with charter pipeline? >>

YES!
I was wondering the same thing but since nobody answered, I just bought one and tried it out.
Returned the old motorola sb4100, called them up, gave mac ID, provisioned the new modem...
then about an hour later, all LEDs turned green and I was ready to surf! woo hoo!

btw, im using charter pipeline in southern california, pasadena area, so not sure if it
will be same with other charters also.

Worked great with comcast in MI! If it gives you problems after they provision it - just hit the reset button on the back. Worked like a charm! Bandwidth is on par with the Toshiba that it replaced.

Thanks for the great deal!

"I just read your post on the Hot Deals website regarding the referenced cable
modem on comcast. I am using Comcast in SC, and they were supposed to
provision it yesterday, but no luck. I read that you pressed the reset button
to get it working - I think I would like to try this. Did you unhook the
modem to hit reset? What happend after you did? "

OK - a bit more detail if you have problems with Comcast. This is in Michigan, I have no idea if it will be the same elsewhere. YMMV

I called comcast to provision the modem. I gave them the serial number, ethernet mac address (unless you are using the USB - then give them that one), and the modem type use 29220. They said they would submit it to the provisioners and it might take a few days. I would try every morning and every night. Same deal. Cable light would hit solid green after negotiating for a few min. But the NIC light would go out at that same moment. I figured I had to give them time to provision it. A few days later, my toshiba stopped working. So I figured the info had been updated. I plugged in my 3com and the same thing still happened. The ethernet interface light would go out when the cable light went solid green.

I then called tech support. We checked and double checked the info. He said that my modem wasn't compatible - that he sent it a 'test' and it failed etc. After a few min of checking all the info he still insisted that my modem was not compatible. I told him to wait, and I went downstairs to hit the reset switch on the modem. I did this while the modem was on and while everything was still connected. When the cable light went solid green - I still had my ethernet interface light! WOHOO! Went back upstairs and the guy made some lame excuse about not trying that. But sure enough - it works great.

Like I said before, bandwidth is at least as good as the toshiba. ~1180kbps according the MSN Bandwidth Test.

In an unbelievable twist of fate, I finally got Comcast to provision this modem. It took 2.5 weeks to get them to do it, but I am now smoking. Just got my AMEX blue BVG check, and after rebate this modem should be about $14. Thanks for the deal!!!
