(Deal Dead???) 1.1 GHz Duron OEM for 39 plus flat 6.95 shipping

You might want to knock down to the TCW $9.00 fan to get a cheaper overall price. I got it with the $39 1.1 duron (it was recommended). If they're giving a 1yr warranty with it, it can't be too bad. But I almost went with that $16 fan that TCWO also offers in their fan section. It's a tough call. Either way, you are getting a great deal - so I wouldn't sweat it. Go with your gut.

thanks again, newPhatDaddy...my gut says, go with Newegg..retail box cant be all that bad..the fan should have anyway been certified by AMD as its retail..appreciate your help

newphatdaddy,

Where did you see the Morgan core Durons won't work on an Abit KT-7 RAID? I was hoping to buy a 1.1 Ghz Duron for my Abit KT7.

DjmCam: The Iwill KK266 BIOS needs to be flashed, then it will accept XP-type CPUs (for the "KK266+" series only, as I recall).

<< LurkingInNC: Any recommendations on a mobo? want something economical but that will be upgradable, prob. also will need to use 133 memory for now but that could be upgraded in future...thoughts? >>

I got the ECS K7S5A from Outpost for $49.95. I am using it with a Duron 1.0 GHz from Newegg and so far it rocks! It's cheap, it has built-in sound and LAN, it takes SDRAM and DDR RAM (but not at the same time). It sounds like it's right up your alley.

<< laidbacklarkin: what are your opinions on the quality of the enclosed fan [from Newegg]? One buyer was not very happy with the fan enclosed...any opinion is highly appreciated >>

I'm no expert on fans, but it seems fine to me and is working great so far.

Which CPUs does my motherboard support?
This depends on which version of the motherboard you have. Support is as follows:

KT7/KT7-RAID: 100MHz (200MHz DDR) FSB processors only. Fastest processor supported is the Athlon 1400(100) - but it must have locked (disconnected) L1 bridges. AthlonXP processors are not and will not be supported.
KT7E: As for KT7/KT7-RAID although unofficially many users have also succeeded with 133MHz Athlon processors. Although the AthlonXP is not officially supported, several people have told me that they using one without problems.
KT7A/KT7A-RAID versions 1.0 to 1.2: All Athlon (Thunderbird) processors with both 100MHz and 133MHz FSB. AthlonXP processors are not officially supported due to a minor timing problem that can require you to hit reset during a cold boot. Unofficially, however, few people seem to experience this problem and these processors work fine.
KT7A/KT7A-RAID versions 1.3: All Duron, Duron (Morgan core), Athlon (Thunderbird) and AthlonXP processors are supported.
The motherboard version can be identified by the bar coded sticker near the ISA slot. Likewise, according to ABIT technical support the Duron (Morgan core) is only supported on the version 1.3 of the motherboard.
Paul's Unofficial ABIT KT7 FAQ

John P - check out this link. While not specifically talking about the KT7-RAID board, it discusses what may be the issue upon use of Morgans on it. Here is another link that flat-out says the board will not work with XP processors (duh)... But it may have something to do with the new Morgan core having the same voltage mod as the XP proc --- thereby causing the reboot problems upon bootup.
