Over 20,000 dead and they think the death toll could hit 40,000 by the time its over. Unbelievable. :(

according to cnn, the san ramon one added a foot of height to local mountains. does that mean the rocky mountains had 4,600 6+ magnitude earthquakes over the last several hundred million years? i'd hate to be around for the earthquake that adds 10 feet

20,000 to 40,000 dead. :(

I hope we send as much help as possible. I still appreciated their people's sympathy towards us after 9/11. Unlike some other Muslim countries where the government sent sympathies but crowds of their people celebrated in the streets, Iran's people went out in the streets without any government prodding and sent their sympathies and condolences in a large public display.

Yeah seriously, where's Galt pointing his grinchy finger at President Mohammad Khatami and the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hoseini-Khamenei and blaming them for the 40,000 deaths? Or is it only the French who can fall victim to a natural disaster while their leadership does "nothing" to stop mother nature? Inconsistant turd.

I, for one, offer my condolences and sympathy to the Iranian people. What a tragedy. :(

I almost cried going through the slideshow on Yahoo! News.

There was one set of pictures, of a man carrying the bodies of his two sons over his shoulders and burying them. :(

according to CNN, a 6.7 has twice the power of a 6.5 (san ramon) earthquake right? cuz its logarithmic and all. nonetheless it makes your think what will happen if "the big one" hits SoCal, LA will become an island or a mountain

we're building multi-million dollar homes on our graves?

maybe this is why Bush is attacking the enviroment, its a pre-emptive strike against the terrorist known as mother earth, she plans on hitting LA within the next 30,000 years...

This is ALL Al Queda's doing! Osama plans to demolish other countries in the middle east, then shake California loose from the mainland. Well, on the latter, one could only hope. =)

Edit: I understand that it's logarithmic, but I didn't think it was *that* much of a jump. Of course, I'm a lifeless geek who works for porn, so i'm probably wrong anyway.

You are wrong anyways. A 5.0 earthquake is 100 times more powerful then a 4.0. Each point in a earth quake means it was 10 times more powerful then the last point. So this earthquake was about 20 times stronger theone in San Ramon. Also the earthquake that hit California recently was not a bad one in that it occured 5 miles deep underground. Had it occured higher nearer to the surface it would of caused a great deal more damage and deaths.

Of course Iran is not built like california and its buildings can withstand far less quake.
