"We'll also be releasing Half-Life: Blue Shift on Steam next week, which will be automatically playable by anyone who owns Half-Life 1, including those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold packages."

You can buy the Premiere pack ($20 for 6 HL1 games), or register a copy of Half-Life on Steam to get it. My account is from the ATI offer and Blue Shift already shows up in my games list.

It may be awhile before we know. The reset request form said that it takes 6-8 weeks. I didn't see any particular reasons that they'd deny a reset request or did I miss something?
There isn't. Lots of people on FW have had their keys reset or exchanged by Valve and Vivendi. Only a couple of people are complaining about the process taking over a week with email methods.

I bought Half Life 2 during the first $0.99 deal and my key arrived used. I sent jpeg image files of everything to hlcdkeys@vugames.com (aka Vivendi) and, about a week later, I received a new key. But I had to email them two additional times and didn't get any sort of reply before the key arrived. And I received a reply to my very first email a day later with instructions on resetting the key through Steam.

So there's some inconsistency in the email support from Vivendi.

These guys really svck. I have tried numerous attempts to contact them about my nonfunctioning CDs. They don't seem to answer either email or phones. I only wish I would have checked the BBB first before I ordered. Just finished filling another BBB complaint about these guys. Hope they get their businness license revoked.

BBB has zero to do with a business license. If you paid with a credit card, have you tried getting them to intervene?

BlackGlove,

I don't mean to imply that you're doing something wrong or anything of the sort, I'd just like to expand on my earlier post.

Someone mentioned that they had the same problem installing it when it first came out, so did I, I then tried to re-install with CS:S included, but had the same error again.

It wasn't until I completely uninstalled hl2/cs:s/steam client and reinstalled that I got it to work, so if you were just trying to add CS:S, perhaps that could be an issue.

If not, sorry you got bum cd's :/

No problem Musicman64. I tried installing both at first and ran into the missing file problem on disc 4. I went back and erased the Valve folder before trying to reinstalled again. Then I decided to avoid installing CS since the missing file was associated with that program. Still no luck. Wish I had the DVD version instead of having to sit there and swap out each disc as needed. Glad to read that most other ppl received a functioning product.

Worst comes to worse, you can just download the game from Steam (*gasp!*). Their download servers are awesome, I get 2,000 KB/s constantly from them when downloading. I suggest you try this.

Suggestion:
remove/uninstall everything,
dl steam application from steampowered.com and install steam FIRST.
Then try install HL2 AND CS:S.

Option 2:
I believe only only disk one is copy protect (even disk4 said copy protect), you can ask a friend to make a copy for you...
(For those that disk was damaged... one way the other can't read in one file...)

Option 3:
Ask a friend that already has the steam/HL2 intalled, logout, creat your account or log in your account there... attach your key to it. (Thus test the key is working or not; if not, you need to send a email to steam support)
On your computer, steam, login your account that already has the game attached. right click and download it from steam.... works if you have a boardband..

I bought 2 HL2's, came in today via USPS First Class Mail. Both open boxed, one had a Best Buy tag on it. The first one registered with no problems, havent tried the second. My guess is that a Dial-up user didnt know they had to be online to install/register the game. Good luck to everyone that got in on this.

I followed the directions on the Steam site and sent in my CD sleeve, CD Key reset form and copy of my receipt on 8-23. On 8-26 I received an email from SteamSupport saying:

Hello xxxxxxx,

We have processed your request for a cd-key reset and updated your account
accordingly.

Here is your new account information:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Account: xxxxxxx
Password: xxxxxxxx
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: passwords are numeric and can be changed in Steam once you have logged in.

You should now have access to your games!

Regards,

The Steam Support Team

So they took care of mine in 3 days. I'd say that's pretty good service. Just make sure you follow their directions precisely and photocopy EVERYTHING you send in, especially your CD sleeve w/key as you'll need to know it if you need to reinstall it later.

One bit still isn't clear to me, do I need to setup a Steam account to get this process going? Or do I need to get the key reset first so that I can setup the steam acct?

Wow, I hate steam, its really a seriously flawed arrangement. Its actually fussier, and more user unfriendly than MicroSoft, and thats no small acheivement.

I am now I hope on the track of getting the key reset for HL2. I did most of this last Thursday, but without a Steam acct it apparently went in the bit bucket, with no email response from the ask a question on the steam support page, or my email to hlcdkeys@vugames.com. With a Steam acct I at least have gotten automated responses to my main and alt email addresses.

I didn't mail anything yet, just opened the Ask A Question in support and attached a .jpg of CD/Key/box upc. I will post again to let everybody know if it worked.

NOTE.
If you put HL2 in the same Steam acct as orignal HL only ONE of the games can be played at any time. Aint that wonderfull. Totally messed up for a lot of families.

My support question attempt at a key reset was "resolved" with a semi automated pasted message with the how to mail your stuff to WA and wait instructions including a bad link to the form I am supposed to use.

Since nothing has actually happened yet I created a second acct to keep HL and HL2 playable at the same time.

I guess I will be snail mailing the key soon, hope email and snail don't snafu each other.

For the love of Pete man, please read this entire thread regarding the "bad 4th disk"!

Man, sad to see you guys giving business to likely the biggest scam artists on the net.. I was wripped off by these guys 2 years ago.. and still haven't forgiven them..

Without my question it's also my belief that over 90% of there new ratings are faked on resellerratings.com and unfortunatly doens't look like resellerratings cares or is even monitored..

2 Years ago they shipped me a printer with 0 packaging.. even though the printer was sold as is.. there was never any possibility of it working if it got thrown around in a box..

I have followed this thread pretty well, and it sounds like 100% of us "eventually" got fully working copies of HL2 for 99 cents and shipping with 3 or 4 bucks of profit tacked into it.

I hope I get ripped off and scammed like this soon on Guild Wars.

Still waiting to get disc's replaced (not by consumerdepot, as that won't happen) - the 2nd disc was bad. But I did recieve an open box HL2 with what I guess is a unused key - cant know for sure till I am actually able to install the game 🙁. Bottomline, I guess - they arent as bad as some people seem to make them out to be.

Your looking at it the wrong way.. Consumer Depot re-sold used games with most likely the key's already used.. the only one that got taken in this situation is YOU and Sierra and they graciously fixed the problem through there system

Speaking of which let me be the bastard here to inform them of this.. I hate this company that much!

So don't order from them.

I bought Half Life 2 gold off of steam when it came out. This is a great deal for extra copies of HL2 for a LAN. Even if you have to jump through a few hoops to get the key transferred to you. After shipping, it's still 4.50 per copy.
