This is back to the Black Friday price, in case you missed it and were looking for a video card bargain. This card has the reduced-cost cooler on it versus the other XFX HD7850 1GB cards, so don't buy this expecting above-average overclocks. If you're just looking for good stock performance and aren't playing at over 1080p or with a lot of AA, then this is a great pick.

I have a HD 4350 right now. Would this be a massive upgrade? I am not hard core at all. I sold my ps3 and 360 recently and wanted to get into PC games. Also does this come with a code to get far cry 3?

So far my PC has been running darksiders lego batman 2 and team fortress 2 decently.

In itself the card is strongly a major upgrade. But depending on settings and games, and resolutions you may not see much. Especially if your currently ok happy with things.

I'm going to take some concern with that statement. The guy has an HD4350...it was an entry level card for its time. An HD 7850 is not an entry level card, nor was it even released just as a sold mid range card, but is a mid-high end range card depending on what you ask. While overclocking isn't my interest, people also have pushed the clocks very high to have a very solid high end performing card.

If he has an old CPU and just plays CPU bound games...sure, he may not see massive jumps. TF2 is definitely CPU bound, but with such an old GPU, he will probably be getting much higher frame rates.

My main question would be "what CPU do you have right?" - An HD4350 probably isn't paired with even first gen core i5...maybe it is though. If his CPU is that old as well, and he wants to get back into gaming, an HD7850 is a great move, but it probably isn't the only move, especially if he wants to play stuff like BF3.

What i ultimately agree is that it comes down to if he is happy with what he has.

Very interested in this deal. 2 concerns though, one is XFX single fan coolers reputation for being noisy and the second is only 1G GDDR5. Currently running a 6750 1G GDDR5 so on paper this is a big upgrade. My PII 840 clocked at 3.6 is not currently limiting anything I do, so I am not concerned about bottle necks. I play a lot of skyrim and with mods I'm up to 900M, and I haven't run the highest res mods due to concerns about exceeding the 1G. Any thoughts on either concern?

People say Skyrim with mods needs Gobs of ram. Most things I've seen is to say is to have >1-1.25 GB of ram. I'd say to aim for 2 GB for longevity.

That said, I myself play Skyrim with as many mods as I want/can find (although I generally go for 1024^2 versions than 20148^2 version of textures), have over 35 mods, and am still running buttery smooth on SLI gtx460s. If I drop to single GPU, performance is MUCH slower.

Here is what I have.

MB ECS A780GM-A AM2+ AMD780G RT - Retail
CPU AMD|ATH II X2 245 AM3 2.9G RT - Retail

They are very old but everything has been playable so far. However Homefront has some serious framerate issues. So would this card take care of most need? I am not into BF3 or skyrim. maybe COD but I am basically doing single player games. I am not into competitive gaming.

I am a huge gamer. I play Crysis 2, COD MW3 and mostly BF3. I have an Nvidia 480 and it runs BF3 with EVERYTHING on at max and I never have a studder (1900x1080). According to tomshardware graphic charts this card is equal to a 480 so it should be able to play pretty much everything you throw at it, especially for your needs. I'm debating getting one for the kid.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I am going to pull the trigger on this.

Amazon has also price matched this card if you prefer them like I do.

If you already bought the card, I'm sure you'll be happy with the improvement over your existing card, but it is quite overpowered for your cpu. In most games a less expensive gpu, like an hd7770, will perform similarly. That being said, to save a significant amount of money, you'd have to get a much weaker card, because the price on this hd7850 is so attractive.

How does this one compare? Is it worth the extra money ($179 before rebate, $165 after) for the 2gb 7850 ? Currently OOS but I ordered anyway willing to forego the rebate if it happens.

If you plan to go multi-monitor or play graphics intensive games on resolutions of 2560x1440 or higher, then the 2GB card would make sense.

Other than that, I just picked up the OP deal at NewEgg will call today... here is praying my office PC with a 400watt PSU is good enough...

I say go for the 7850. Your X2 processor might not allow you to fully utilize this card but you will definitely see huge improvements graphics wise.

Your card is entry level while this one is mid-high. You will be able to use higher quality graphics with more details.

I have a couple X2-X4 Athlons and phenoms in gaming machines and a good graphics card definitely smooths games out.

Of course upgrading to a better processor will improve graphics speed and FPS but you can´t go wrong with this card.
