[DEAD] XFX HD5870 1GB - $170AR/FS at Newegg

you'll see the 6950 price drops once the non-reference models come out with less expensive parts. most definitely won't be unlockable to 6970.

i would jump on a 6950 now. they are around 250 AR.

Would this be a good upgrade coming from a HD5770 1GB on a Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.1ghz). Or should I keep saving for a core i5 system?

I just built my new i5 2500k rig, but I'm still using the HD4870 that I pulled from my old E8500 system. I was thinking about buying a GTX 560ti, the MSI Twin Frozr II to be specific, but i got an email today from TD that had this:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=G458-0560 - 209.99AR

Would this 5870 be a better deal/choice? I'm mainly looking for a good DX11 card in the $200 +/- $30, and I'm always willing to wait/shop around. This seems like a good deal though, and I don't want to miss out if it's better choice.

Look at the benchmarks I posted in the first link. The 5870 is just as fast, and uses far less power. But it's a longer and potentially louder card. Your choice.

Well...damn. I've got a 460 GTX 1GB right now but my motherboard is AMD so only supports crossfire. Going from a 460 > CF'ed 5870's on this deal would cost less than a single 580 and outperform it. And the 460 I have right now has a really obnoxious fan.

Edit: Crap. Looks like my board drops to 4X PCI-E when crossfired. Blah.

Edit 2: *sigh* Caved and got 2. If the crossfire performance sucks, I can at least gain some performance (even with one card) till I drop in a new motherboard, and I can re-purpose this 460 GTX in my upcoming HTPC/Living Room game machine anyway.

This 5870 would definitely be a better deal, I would only get the 560Ti if it was within $10-20 of the 5870. Performance difference is minimal (around 5%) but 560Ti runs much better in DX11 Tesselation.

Well I have been trying to decide if this card was the best choice. I was debating between this card and the HD 6870 on SD for $180 a few days ago. When that fell through I set my sights on the current sale of the HIS 1GB 6950 for $200. Then I just read this article about the HIS 2GB 6950,
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6950/1.html
and was totally suprised that the HD5870 can be so close in performance to this Newer card! Correct me if Im wrong, but between this performance and the warranty that XFX offers, this is the best deal to be found at this time. Have to watch myself, I can talk myself into buying anything! Am I wrong about this? Thanks

I have a 460 at the moment and planning to get this card. Is it worth it to crossfire a pair, or just go for one. I am not sure the comparisons. Thanks!

will be able to give first hand experience after the ups guy gets here today, but all reviews show that these things are monsters in xfire...
