I price cars for a living. If I priced a high end sedan at $.13 and it made it to our corporate web page, we'd sell the car for $.13. Me, my department, the legal team, our advertising and Internet content departments would all be fired, but we'd honor the ad.

Just received the cancellation e-mail from Dell. If you look at the post about the cancellation on the Dell forums page, it's already been viewed nearly 4000 times. If each viewer had ordered just one Rio Karma, the loss for Dell would total ~$1,000,000....and we all know that most people ordered a lot more than one.

Oh well...you win some, you lose some.

They have definitely lost a lot of good will and it is definitely going to affect their bottom line somewhere down the line.

But to all the DE!! Lovers here, who keep bitching about people whinning etc., how do YOU justify price mistakes happening so often? And the Sr. Members here who keep touting their number of posts and slamming the noobs, you need to get off your high horse and get real. Does the number of posts against your names massage your ego that much?

You're right. Postcount has nothing to do with n0obness. I don't think Rain is a noob, and even though you have 10 times the posts he does I do think you are one.

Speaking of high horses...

No cancellation email, but it shows as cancelled when I log into my Dell account. They should at least give out a coupon or something.

Well I think if anybody had an order with multiple units and manages to get it due to a blackhole appearing at Dell just as the CSR is trying to cancel their oder and sucking the CSR into an alternate dimension, then they should send you a unit(assuming you pay them $80 of course lol).

Hip hip hooray =P

Too bad there's about a 1 in 10,000,000 chance that anybody gets one. Oh well. If only it had been in stock...

Since Dell is obviously so Customer Service oriented they should set up an email system for "valued customers" that informs them in advance of the coming week's online price typo.

nice very nice.

I got mine cancelled too. :(

From what ive seen, everything everyone else has said leads me to believe it pointless to bicker. I guess what it boils down to is if DELL thinks they can survive loosing several thousand maybe even tens of thousands of customers over what is considered chump change to such a huge conglomerate. In America, the people have high standards for retailers and businesses, there are far too many options for people to choose from nowadays and companies cant afford to loose customers. Companies strive to live up to the peoples standards and when they fail the people they will surely find someone else to give their money.

I think in a follow up to this embarassing mess up for DELL, we should give them a "thousand email march" flooding their email accounts with thousands of complaints. Who knows they might give in considering they would have to pay people to read em all and respond to them. It would be like picketing in front of the store, only with emails. Their responses for support and everything else would come to a slow crawl. Hey maybe a boycott is in order. I dunno these may seem radical ideas to some, but ill say this if some laywer got screwed like the rest of us and he wants to take DELL to the mat, ill testify.

Yeah, Dell is going to lose thousands of customers because of this you keep on thinking that. Go ahead and e-mail them too, I'm sure they'll honor the price mistake then
rolleye.gif
I very much doubt they would have lost a small amount of money if they had honored all of those people that ordered it at that price. Those units retail $350-$400, actual cost for Dell is probably in the neighborhood of $150-$200 if not a bit on the high end. I'm sure all of the folks that complain in this thread will continue to shop at Dell's website even if they say in here that they won't.

dell will lose thousands of bad customers like me. furthermore, we will tell our unborn children and grandchildren about this lecherous totally fair unilateral action taken part by dell, hence it will be as if they had lost billions of future potential customers.

one thing's for sure:
i will never order from dell again until the next pricing mistake or sale they have!!
