Wasn't there some company working on this concept in 2001, where they marked up prices 5x, and then paid you back in full after 8 weeks (if you remembered)? IIRC, they crashed hard....
CyberRebates.com. In the begining they only charged a typical price, I got about $3K worth of free stuff from them. Then they worked up to charging 2-10 times retail! One lady had over $80k in outstanding rebates when it folded 🙁

what's the point of rebates? I'm sre there is one, I just don't immediately see it. If they are really serious about coming through on the rebate, why not just offer the savings up front? Why bother with having third party companies have to handle the rebate forms and claims, etc?
I recall reading several marketing essays on this a couple of years ago and there are numerous business reasons why rebates are so attractive to manufacturers and retailers. Rebate strategies help manufacturers protect their price point and also manage retailer inventories without direct discounting or buybacks. Once an item is actually discounted say 30 or 50%, it is difficult to reinstate the higher price. If retail inventories get out of balance or the product has peaked in its lifecycle, offering a rebate is a simpler method to reduce the excess inventory. It avoids having to take merchandise back which is costly or having to negotiate a buyback price or credits which can be difficult to workout.

And yes, when planning out the rebate offer, they have all the statistics on buyer behavior which helps the accurately approximate the actual rebate payouts. There are certain customers who never mail-in rebates, some who forget, get lost in the mail and simply submitted improperly ("cripple rate"). Not surprising, there is a direct relationship between the $ amount and the response rate. It has become a game and as I stated before, certain retailers such as CompUSA have knowingly abused it.

OK, here is a good one. I have been informed along with about 50 others at work that our jobs are being moved to Taiwan. Yea, merry F'in Christmas. A minor problem compared to finding work in So. CA, but a problem nonetheless, my check is supposed to come to my work address, but we are all out by Dec. 20th. How do I change the address to where the rebate should go? The USPS will not forward because there are too many names here. I hope I am not SOL. 🙁

OK, let me put it this way. My question is what to do if you need to change the address the check should go to? I have lost my job, we are all out by around Dec. 20th. I really need this money now. Any ideas? Thanks!

Screw Dell, I will never deal with them again. Ordered two 100Gb 7200RPM Western Digital drives from them about 5 weeks ago. Site said in stock ships in 2 to 3 days. A few days later got and email stating they were out of stock, but I would receive them within the next 15 days. About 12 days later I checked my orders status online. and found the order had been cancelled. They never even had the courtesy to let me know they cancelled the order. Called customer service and was told the order was cancelled because they couldn't get that model drive anymore. That's the last order I'll ever place with them!

Try filling out the change of address form at the local postoffice. I think they will forward your mail up to a year.

Oops nevermind. I see that you are moving overseas.

Actually, it is just the jobs moving overseas. I am out of work and SOL. Also, we can't fill out a change of address form for a business address. I really hope I don't miss out on the $100. 🙁

Damn! My rebate still doesn't show on their web site. I called CSR, and they said that I would have to resubmit the rebate again, and send them a copy of UPC (capacity) label... I was BAD and I didnt make that copy! Oh man 🙁 Anybody scanned their capacity label by any chance and maybe can send it to me? Otherwise I would have to buy a new 120GB retail package, make a copy of the label and return it.. Next time I will scan damn everything I send.. Anybody can help please?

If you want someone to help, you might want to give an email address or turn on PM's or something like that

I sent my rebate in within the 30 day window and it was delivered on 12-5. I just checked on the rebate site and it still doesn't show up. Should I start getting worried or should I wait a while longer? Lynn

Hmmm... I wonder what's going on. I have been trying to check on the status of my rebate for the past hour. Is this once again the AT effect at work? I can't get thru, and of course the CS office is closed now. Guess I will have to call tomorrow and kindly request some information.

Rebate still doesn't show on their web site. Can somebody please send me scanned capacity label for retail drive? I called them and they said that I have to resubmit copies again. Please?

Thanks

I called today and told them that they had received my rebate on Dec. 5 and asked them when it would posted on the web site. They didn't know but suggested that I keep checking. They were no help. Has anyone gotten any further with this rebate? I've been checking the rebate thread here and haven't seen anyone having success there either.

this is not cool, I sent out a while ago and even got a return receipt and certified mail form the post office to make sure I had proof they received it, I forgot to make copies, but at least I know they got it.

Sent the rebate out long time ago...still haven't gotten anything back...almost wish i had the oem and just got the credit : \

Nothing shows up on website.

I just got my $100 retail rebate today. There was no info found on online tracking, but it showed up today anyway. WOOT!😛

I placed my order on Oct. 11 or somewhere around there, and the drive arrived a few days later.
