Ok, now I have one of each oem and retail. Come Monday I'll have to call and cancel the oem.

Sweet deal - bought the retail version yesterday . sent an email to Dell to get the rebate coupon. Got a couple of auto responses but no coupon yet.

The question here is not whether it will ship to be eligible for the rebate window (until 10/13), but will it arrive in time to mail in the rebate before the expiration date for mailing the rebate. Your order date is you eligibility date no matter when it ships. Does anybody have any idea what date the rebate submission needs to be postmarked by?
 
Nervous about the rebate!

"All requests must be postmarked within 30 days from the date of purchase."
 
dell told me they will email the rebate on tuesday, let's hope wd honors it otherwise its costing $178 insted of $78,you can always return the drive to dell as well if there is no rebate.

Did most of you guys ship it home or to your business? I don't know if it matters because I know UPS and FedEx always as if the address is Residential.
 
grrr. i need to learn how to read. i ordered the oem version last night by mistake and was wondering why my ship date was in nov. just ordered the retail right now. hope i can cancel the oem on monday :frown:
 
bb's has another dell deal with a new price, wierd. lnguyen, call dell on tuesday, they will email you the rebate. this deal doesnt sound too good after what wd said to me.

Mikey, most likely they wont. Anyone ordering now is going to be back ordered. They said they are backordered now and out of stock. SO you guys who waited till now, unless they just ordered more, I dont see how your going to receive the disk in time for the rebate... They had thousands of orders im guessing by now. This deal is on like 5 websites already.
 
Well according to the terms of the rebate, you have 30 days after you purchase it to send in the rebate. So even if it is backordered there's a remote chance that the drive would still arrive within a month.

And also, keep in mind that many (perhaps most?) of the early orders were for the OEM drive, and it seems like it might not be eligible for the rebate. So all that ordered the OEM drives will have to get to the back of the line for the retail ones.

We'll see...

It has been gone over quite a few times over the course of this thread. The rebate form has not yet been posted by Dell. Those who have spoken to Dell CSRs have been told rebate forms will be included in the box and can also be e-mailed as early as Tuesday.

 
Just called Dell, Spoke to Travis (is everybody there named Travis?). Anyway, he said they are currently working on getting the rebate applied to the proper product. The rebate IS valid for the RETAIL version only (WD product number ends in JBRTL. He said the rebate should be up by Monday. He also assured that the RETAIL version will ship in time for the rebate, in fact he said they still show it as being in stock.

I just ordered mine, and I went from dell.com and followed these steps to make sure the 15% was added to the order:
Click Small Business
Save 15% on Software & Peripherals! Online Only - Expires 10/13/2002 (click it)
Click Data Storage on Right
Desktop Hard Drives on Right
EIDE 61GB and Above
Scroll down to the RETAIL version (14th option down)
click on 'Western Digital'
Then click 'Add to cart'
You should then see:

Sub-total $198.86
Discounts -$29.83
Shipping1 $6.00
Discount1 -$6.00
Tax1 $8.45
Total Price1 $177.48


Boom, ready to go! 🙂


I know some of you seem to have been able to just 'click' on some of the links provided earlier, however I never got the 15% Discount untill I went through the front Page.
