It's not the stores you need to worry about, it is those damned rebate houses. They are becoming close to scandalous in terms of not fulfilling rebates. Legislation, anyone? That'd be interesting.... the 'Fa'... er... 'ObeseBillfold Act'...

Just make sure they send you every rebate you send in for. They hope you forget or something, that is probably stores will 'blacklist' you for, not the coupons. They dislike anyone actually sending in the rebates, that's where they get 15% of their suckers.

Just got back 2 mins ago. Walked in 5 min before closing. Talked to my old cool boss, and he said they had em and they were special editions. Walked in the back, grabbed me one, rang it up, gave him the online coupon and WOLLA $116 out the door. Didnt need $10 in FAR items. $29 on the dot for me

Actually, the only real difference on the platter count is, is that the less platters, the cheaper it is no make the drive, HOWEVER, some people say that since they are cramming so much info into that small space, that reliability suffers. Which might explain why they went with some drives with 1yr instead of 3, (that and the fact it costs more $$$ to have 3, but that is another story:) )

I am curious, if you phone in order, and they give you the order #, it seems the only way to check the status is to call them up, since no matter what you try at officemax.com, it comes back with a bogus message of timeout... (not a real server time out, since I can use another number, and it works just fine... so anyone know for sure?)

P.S, I called in, they said OOS. Went to store, in stock... won't accept coupons, since it says phone/online only.
So we are gonna have to see. I should just go to store, and get it, and sit on it to see of the OOS get put back in stock.

Oh yeah, as for those coupon codes, supposedly they will soon have (or already have done?) certain codes for certain areas, and you can't use some in some areas, which is why some people got the CS saying "no!" This is what a OM guy said to me.

And finally, anyone notice that the rebate form only lists the 120GB UPC of the *NON* SE drive? According to rebatesHQ, if you look it up, they say 5/25/3-5/31/3 UPC 71803714096 =$30 That is the UPC for the 2MB cache, not the 8MB cache. Wonder if they will reject the 8MB UPC codes?

$30 MIR and $50 MIR are valid for both the 2mb and 8mb cache drives.

$30 MIR - make a copy of the UPC code as proof of purchase.

$50 MIR (Offer D) - include the capacity label as proof of purchase.

Yes, I have seen the .pdf, but over at www.rebatesHQ.com, search for western digital 120GB from officemax:

"Promotion Description: OfficeMax May Rebates!! (See Qualifying Products and Rewards in Details Below) Product: WESTERN DIGITAL 120GB HARD DRIVE Rebate: $30.00 Valid Purchase Dates: 05-04-2003 through 05-31-2003"

then in the Qualifying products, it shows :

the last line says : "Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive (UPC 718037104096)=$30 "
This could be a thorn, since rebatesHQ only talks about the 2MB cache version.

For the $50 rebate, they list:
"Promotion Description: $50 Rebate on Western Digital 120GB 7200 RPM EIDE Hard Drive ((or)) 8MB SE HHD ((SEVEN DAY OFFER ONLY)) OFFICEMAX OFFER!! Product: 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE 120GB EIDE Rebate: $50.00 Valid Purchase Dates: 05-25-2003 through 05-31-2003"

So that is good to go.

Just got one from Circuit City for about $40, and I didn't have to mess with any coupons. Very easy pricematch just for a few dollars more.

Since some of us are having problems getting the extra $30 off $150 with the online coupon. I have a $10 off $20 in store coupon that ends 5/31. At least you get the HD for $49.99 + tax. Its some constilation for not getting the $30. E-mail me @ aznboi64@pacbell.net. I'll send it over asap. Another thing people can try is go to OM and do an online order there. That way you can use the $30 off $150 and if the HD is not up at their website, use that as an excuse to use the $30 off $150. Of course this might be a YMMV.

I guess that we can always argue with rebatesHQ.com that the original coupon or OM flyer doesn't say "NON-SE 120gb only". Nor does the original coupon or OM flyer specify the item # or UPC code. As a matter of fact, the OM I went to only had SE version.

I asked a question about the capacity level lable, and someone said it is just the orange square. I see two proofs of purchase on the back. Should I keep one or send in both?

Send the capacity label and the UPC label with the serial code number on it. I sent just the serial number/UPC code label for my 80 GB SE rebate and it was invalid because I didn't send the capacity label. I did call rebateshq and talked to them about the packaging being different now and the capacity label no longer has the UPC code and serial number label below it. The CSR just had me read off the UPC, which I had a copy of and she validated it on the spot.

Bottom line.. If they ask for the drive capacity lable, give it to them. It's just the orange square that says 120 gb on it.

Here's what I saw at RebatesHQ regarding the $30 MIR.

VALID 5/25/3 - 5/31

Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive (UPC 718037104096)=$30
:Q

If you look this weeks ad, item# 2014-8555 (2 mb) and 2034-6127 (8 mB) shows the $30 OfficeMax MIR and $50 manufacturer's MIR. No mention of $30 MIR being only for the 2mB. I grabbed a copy of the May 2003 Mail-In Rebate Directory (pages 5 & 6) and no mention of it being only for the 2 mb too.

2mb UPC - 718037104096
8mb UPC - 718037104287

I'm going to include a copy of the add showing the item# when I submit my $30 rebate form.

Why do you goto rebatesHQ.com ;) ?? Keep copies of the rebate forms, and copy of the OM ad and that should be sufficient. Because OM's website was also showing both rebates valid for 8MB version, right before they took it off the website till Saturday...

I find that when dealing with rebatesHQ.com (via the online way) you actually get the rebate faster, since alll they do is scan the printout and whatever else. I had 1 rebate via normal (fill out paper form) , and 1 rebate via online (fill out form online), and the online came back 1 1/2 weeks faster...
I should also print out the pdf of the online ad from OM, that way it would be easy to show them about the slight problem.

try the ExceedinglyLargeWallet..... it doesn't have the actual coupon, but you can print off the coupon code, which is what i did. i then called my local OM and ordered a HD and a few other items. he said the HD wasn't in stock, but he was gettin 24 more later this week (before saturday). he said he'd save me one and that when i come in he'll honor my online/phone $30 off $150 coupon.

i think you actually need one that is printed then dude, not just the code number. You can print out the online ones but there is only a code number for the phone ones and people have to get them through e-mail in order to be able to print it. So either you are showing him your online one or you are screwed if you are trying to show him you phone one since there is nothing to show.
BTW: What is ExceedinglyLargeWallet anyway?

THANKS for the reply though

Can I use this rebate form Text to get the rebate on the 120 GB drive if I already sent in this form a few weeks ago for a rebate on the 80 GB drive?

The form says "check only one box" on page 2 of the form. To me, that seems like I can only get one out of the four rebates.

I want to get this 120 GB drive, but not if the rebate will be rejected.

Anyone know the answer to this? I haven't had a chance to call them.

Hope this isn't a Re-Post, but...

My store was out of stock on the Khypermedia DVD-Rs before the sale started, and I noticed the corporate sub sheet lists the Fuji DVD+R 25pk spindle for 24.99 instant (Don't have the SKU handy, not listed online). 1$/DVD+R seems pretty hot compared to what's availible, and no rebates required.

Cheers

If you look at the rebate you will see that each hard drive has a different offer # because it's a different offer, (offer "D" #03-56212 for the 120GB drive).

ecyclopedia - e=mail me for the $30 off $150 coupon. Remember though using it in store is a big YMMV. The coupon is only good for phone/online order. So order it at OM in store and I'm sure the HD won't show up. And tell the CSR the problem and that you'd like to use the coupon. It should work. I'm going to try mines tomorrow.

talked to csr for phone order... he seems ify that they will be able to fill all of the orders?! maybe he's stressed but he said if they can't fill in 7 days/ they cancel... and if they can't fill in time for the rebates... you don't get them.

btw- the 30 off 150 printable coupon code was for Staples! my bad yo :(

so to wait out the phone order or go to store and just get it, that is the question??... my store will not take the online coupon

I ordered the 120GB SE this morning by phone, and luckily they were in stock. The CSR I talked to said that I had to receive the drive by this Friday in order for the rebates to be valid. Why would it matter when I receive it? If I'm sending in the receipt, wouldn't that only have the purchase date on it? How would they know when I received the drive?

Welcome to Anandtech. Asking for coupons etc is not acceptable here... use PM for that
