Then what is that little white sticker on the bottom that says "WDC Serial Number" with the barcode then? (confused, since that barcode that indicates the model number is actually part of the capacity label sticker.

Since when has the serial number of a product ever been the barcode of the box? This whole thing is pretty confusing, but it seems illogical for the serial number of the drive to be the same as the UPC code for the box.

Serial numbers are quite often barcoded on the outside of the box.

However, this is a separate barcode from the UPC barcode.

This is for fellow Anandtechers in the BAY AREA, CA

So has anyone found a BB that will do the PM against Microcenter? From what I've read in the thread, looks like Pinole is a definite no-go so far. Just wondering which one is more "worth" that drive.

Thanks!

The BB on Blossom Hill Rd/I-85 in San Jose did the MC PM for me. I bought the drive on Sunday but waited to do the PM (originally was gonna do Amex BVG). Went in Monday night with just my receipt and a copy of the MC flyer. It took a manager to get the computer to allow the PM, but she never even mentioned the rebates nor did she call MC to verify price/availability.

Fishmonger, I was successful at doing the PM at the Pleasant Hill BB. As of Tuesday morning they had 1 left on the shelf (though the guy running the comp area said there were none). But they were suppose to get a shipment Tuesday night. And according the JDAustin's post, it looks as though they did get a few drives in. I'll probably swing by on Friday to see how many are left.

I was able to price match at Reston with no problem. Used the printout from the website. No questions, no problem.... until....

They didn't want to give me the rebate receipts or the rebate forms. Said I wasn't eligbile for them. I asked where that was printed in their policy or on the rebates. The guy just shrugged and handed me the forms. The rebate receipt does say Reg 249.99 with match competitor price.

Just realized after reviewing the current comments on the thread that I didn't get the 110% price match. Guess I'm going back to complain :)

Good luck with getting the pm and rebates....

InfoHunter, I suggest you return your drive, then buy a new one at full price, make copies of your receipts, then go back and PM it. That way you'll get the rebate forms when you buy it at retail price.

Well I got this HD last night from Best Buy. It was a pretty good deal at $120 ($259-$100 WD rebate-$20 BB rebate). They've caught onto the deal and there not PMing it. However they are trying to compete with the MC price and I'm happy with the price I got it for.

Paying a $1 a GB is not a hot deal, it's just average. Over the past three weeks I've bought a 40GB HD for $10, got paid $7 to buy a 80GB HD and got this 120GB HD for $23.11.

If I were you I would hold on to the drive to see if a better deal come up in the next few weeks. I think the return policy on HD's at BB is 30 day, look on your receipt.

Also $259 - $120 is $139 not $120.

I'm in. Glen Allen, VA BB PM'd to Fairfax, VA MC (Over 100 miles away) without problem. I may get another one to setup a RAID array '-'. I may buy the drive at OM instead, though to safeguard against sheistiness from one vendor over the other.

I stopped by the Houston BB at Richmond and 610 and I happened to see that they have the drives back on the shelf..4 of them to be exact. The PM to MC may sitll be good there.

Bestbuy.com has the Western Digital 120GB HD back in stock on their web site, but Bestbuy.com doesn't do PM's on-line. You could order the HD for in-store pick up and then try to do a return/buy back/PM in the store. It's a long shot, but it might work if you can get a CSR who's willing to do it for you.

DARN officemax and their low stock, they are constantly out of stock on hot items... oh well...

When you do the OM deal, what rebate do you send in?

You must have misunderstood me.... I got the rebate forms when I did the price match. I just had to fight with the customer service guy who didn't want to give them to me.

I also called WD this morning to check on the rebate even with the PM and they said no problem. The rebate doesn't specify a minimum purchase price. So it doesn't matter what is on the rebate receipt.

It went off in the mail today.... Keeping fingers crossed that things go smoothly.... Although I do like a good argument :D

Went to BB today, they had 2 in stock. Had him PM against the Santa Clara MicroCenter. I think he was going to give on the "outside the location" bit (about 25 miles). But he used the competitor needs to have it in stock line. We called MC, they are out and will be out for another week.

If anyone has any better luck, let me know.

My friend and I both got it no problems here at my local officemax, probably because of the fact that they got chewed out by corporate because a customer was in earlier in the week and went all the way up the chain of command. My OfficeMax wouldn't take the Staples coupon because there isn't a Staples wehre I live so we still will get it for $50 after rebate, not bad deal thanks guys!
