can a bigger drive be added if needed...just curious

Yea, it's a standard SATA HD inside an enclosure. You can put any SATA drive inside. You will void the warranty of course, but that's not a concern to me.

congrats on those who got in on this.
what the hell is the point of having a six day sale when (they knew) it would run out on the very first day 🙁

Haha yeah that's what I was thinking. All the stores I went to (4) said they sold out basically within a couple of hours lol.

I got to my Staples at about noon and some old dude was standing by the table with the last one in his hand reading the back of the box like it was a novel or something. I hovered hoping he'd put it down, but no luck. Oh well.

It's a loss leader, I wouldn't expect it to last the whole week... the point is to get you in so you'll buy other stuff. 😛 I was going to buy a paper shredder too, but when I saw they were out of hard drives I put the shredder back and went and bought one at Costco. Very happy with my Costco shredder. 🙂

My Staples only had 3 available to sell.

We were out within the first ten minutes🙁

 to all of you who werent complete assholes to the associate that helped you. Whether its my fault I cant pick a 400gb drive from the sky or not, I dont know, but some people dont get the idea that they were on clearance. Meaning we were clearing them out. Also meaning that the stock from store to store is varied, and no, they are not online.

Sorry, first it was some guy that seemed to think I had personally horded all the drives, then some bitch that REALLY wanted a rain check on a different item after I personally showed her the actual ad that said "while supplies last"😕

I phoned one of my local Staples (San Fernando Valley, Ca.), and an associate at one store said they sold all sixteen they had in thirty minutes. I got back, later this afternoon and phoned another store about twenty minutes before closing, and the associate said they had just found two more.

I quickly phoned a friend (whose name happens to be Sally) and told her to get on her pony and ride. I beat her to the store and quickly grabbed both drives. She showed up two minutes before closing, and we got our drives. I'm formatting mine as I'm posting this.

Even bettter, they allowed me to use a $10 off $20 Office Max coupon. 😀

I think that guy lied to you Harvey. Was it the staples in woodland hills? I went there at 12:00 and picked up 2 with the office depot cupon. I got home and 2 hours later decided to pick up one more as they were only about 2 minutes away. He got it with no problem. I didnt ask how many they had but seemed like they had plenty.

I wasn't rushing to get one because I really don't need another drive, but they still had one in the back (manager got it for me) when I went at 1pm. However, I forgot he the coupon. 🙁

BTW, I don't think nealh intended to threadcrap although it read that way. It was just a heads up as to how hard it might be to get the deal if you wait too long on Sunday.

well you are a member here... so why DID you horde all of them for yourself???!

JK JK i used to work at staples too and i know what happens during sales like this, although its been a while.

No, it was the Van Nuys store, and that's what my friend, Sally said they told her. I was out until late in the afternoon when I called and found the last two in North Hollywood.

How did you forget it? It prints out as part of your receipts. 😕

He meant the office depot coupon, not the staples rebate.

Oops. My bad. I edited my previous post because it was an Office Max coupon, but it doesn't change the overall picture. Just an extra bit of luck on an already great deal. 🙂

Damn; all the stores near me are out of stock. I could go into downtown Boston or all the way to Needham, but that's just too far with no guarantee.

I wouldnt really worry about it. It would take nothing short of a miracle for them to actually have something left by now...

Just saw over on FW some folks are finding out that WD will not honor the warranty on some of the drives. Something about out of region drives. Just a heads up for folks.

As for a decent size internal, Fry's has been running a 500GB Maxtor for $99.99. I haven't had any problems with them. And at $0.05 cents a GB it's hard to beat that deal. Link
