Can the western digital external enclosures be opened? I have heard some users having trouble opening the enclosures of external hard drives...

I suppose there is always the sledgehammer trick...

You can open it, but you have to get to the screws, which are hidden really well under convincing circular stickers.

I wanted to get a decent size internal HD. Would I be better off getting this and throwing the HD inside it into my machine or would I be able to get a better deal on a HD without the external enclosure?

good primary drive here....

If you just need a back-up drive, go with the OP deal.

Would love to jump on this deal, but USB is the killer. Does anyone know if it also had FireWire or eSATA? I'm not sure about others, but everytime I try capturing video from my video camera to a USB external hard drive I get loads of dropped frames...

Thinking about getting one and going RAID5 from 400GB RAID1.

I can just open one of these up, and there's an internal SATA in there? Is there some kind of USB->SATA converter that's part of the case? I don't want to open it up and find it has no SATA connections (both power and cable).

I hate rebates, but that's a great deal. I guess I'll be picking one up.

How do we know the drive inside is SATA?
