I just got my 6000, and my memory is only DDR2-400! I have a 533FSB CPU, this is not right :( Did anyone else get DDR2-400 and not 533?

I just got my Inspiron 6000 yesterday. My first laptop, and it's sweeeeeet. Haven't checked the memory speed yet, but I did reformat.

I am also curious about a sleeve/case for it; any recommendations?

Also, those with the upgraded X300 graphics, you need this utility in order to install the Catalyst drivers. ATI, for some reason, does not directly support the Mobility chips.

Its due to OEM modding of the cards. Using that utility may lead to loss of some functionality, but it doesn't really matter most of the time.

That's what you ordered genius. If you want 533Mhz memory you have to upgrade it.

I got my 6000D today.

Now I need some help, PLEASE.

If I format my drive and install my XPPro on it where will I get the drivers etc for it.
Also there are a few things that are pre installed that I would like to have, will I be able to just install what I want with the CD's that came with it?

Thanks in advance
Ken

Just use the utility CD that dell has provided for you if any drivers are not picked up by WinXP.

As for the pre installed software, it should be all in the CDs that dell provides for you. I can't want to get my i9300. It shipped today and should be at my place tomorrow. Not bad for ground shipping :p

got my 700m... and , yes, i am wholly satisfied with it. the resolution is pretty extreme because its squeezing 1280 pixels accross on a 12" screen when im running the same on a 19" dell LCD... bump the text size on webpages 1 notch and run windows at 110% dpi setting

does anybody know, though, whether its safe to transport the laptop while its in standby or with the lid closed... (when the lid close does it go to standby mode or some other mode?

I ordered This One and it's very nice for the money.

have you received it yet? hows the fitment? the 6000 is my first notebook so i have no experience with the cases or sleeves. i was advice not to get a notebook case as thieves target those and get a sleeve and use a plain backpack.

Um, nope. :p I've been playing with my 6000 for the past 2 hours. The 6000 DOES NOT INCLUDE PROGRAM, DRIVER, UTILITY, OR OPERATING SYSTEM CD'S!!!!!!!! :|

If you dig through all your crap, you'll see a little blue piece of paper that states:

Your new computer does not require an operating system CD or drivers CDs. Instead, if you ever need to reinstall your software, use one of the following methods

Every other Dell I've used over the past 2 years (for work, personal) includes them. Hell at work we have a box full of those OS/driver CD's. You can supposedly make a backup OS CD with some Dell utility which was not on my computer. (Supposedly under Dell Accessories, I looked all over for it)

I just made a copy of the Dell and Drivers folder (and the Program Files folder for the hell of it to test out the DVD burner) - all the drivers you need are under Drivers, labeled pretty well to boot. (They're also available via download at support.dell.com/pcrt)

That's the one thing that pisses me off about this new laptop - otherwise, it's pretty sweet. I kinda regret not getting the WXGA+, but it's a nice screen anyway. :) I'm throwing on XP Pro slipstreamed right now, can't wait to get everything on there and Ghost'ed. :)

Has anyones order stayed on production -- nothing checked below and still shipped by the ship date? I placed a second order today and its all the way to testing already. the other one was placed last Wed at 8:15 and is just sitting. Dell claims it will make the scheduled ship date.

Not a damn thing. Everything is trial software anyway, except for SonicNOW DVD stuff. (I use Roxio or Nero though, so not worth it)

Wondering why you guys are reformatting to install XP Pro...I'd like to put Pro on my 700m, but would it not just be an upgrade? Guess I'll stick the CD in and find out but thought to drop a query as well...

That's what you ordered genius. If you want 533Mhz memory you have to upgrade it.

The selection page makes no mention of memory speed at all.

I talked to someone who benchmarked the 400MHz and 533MHz memory, and there is NO NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE becuase the 400MHz has faster CAS timings. I was initially pissed cuz I got 400MHz, but now I'm OK with it becuase upgrading is cheaper for 400MHz, and it has the same performance as the slower CAS speed 533MHz.
