I went for Oblivion the week after it came out, enjoyed playing it, but a day or two after getting it something strange happened: I played for a bit, and my tower beeped at me...And did it again shortly thereafter, and kept going, until I killed Oblivion.
The next time I played it eventually happened again, after not too long (perhaps somewhere around 30-60 minutes of playing, I can't remember exactly). I killed the game and immediately opened Catalyst Control Center (I have an x800xt that came in my Dell...please, no remarks about how I should have built myselft and whatnot...next time. this one has served great for over a year), and it said that my video card was running at something like 80 degrees C, considerably higher than its rest 50C.
This was last week, and by now I can play maybe 5 minutes before it starts beeping at me. I was thinking that the fan on the card must have died, but I haven't gunned up my computer with the case hanging open to find out.
So I'm here for more exper opinions. If you think I've identified the problem correctly, I'm very open to suggestions for fixing it. I'm going to contact Dell, see what they say about giving me a new fan for the card (if that's actually the issue), as my computer is still under warranty.
If Dell won't deal with it, I'd gladly take recommendations for replacing the fan (but not the card, it still gives me pretty high settings on oblivion, so it's solid).
Thanks in advance for help.
