To get the coupons to work, you need to click links on certain websites so going through MSN will lose ur coupons.

"hurry"? I know this is a good deal if you are in the market for one. If you do want one now, I agree this is a great deal. But, all I can think of is paying $400 for a HP 2x CDRW drive. A good brand 48X can be had for under $50 now. Of course, this is the case with most technology, but I expect DVD-R drives to get much faster and much, MUCH cheaper in the next several months ahead. Though, I have been wrong before.

incorrect.

i went through ebates, applied a coupon, used msn wallet to check out. already have an email confirming the purchase qualifies for msn.

I'm still curious if anyone knows what drive manufacturer makes the Verbatim DVD+RW. It has the same speeds as the HP dvd200i on both DVD and CD burning/reading, but cheaper by over $100. Also, anyone know about the rebate? Does it come from Verbatim and are they reliable?

I paid $300 for a 4x yamaha cdrw....but that was three years ago. If you care to wait 3 years, I'm sure you'll be able to get a great DVD writer for a song.

I don't think dvd-writers will go above ~16x because at that speed, the angular velocity of dvd's will be the same as that for current 52x CD's and as some people have already experienced first hand, disk cannot phsically handle much more speed without breaking. (unless of course they move to multibeam)

Of course, it will take time for them to drop in price. That's why I said if you need or want one now, this is a great deal. I only point out that CD-R drives prices dropped quickly and got much faster over the last year to 18 months. I expect that trend to happen with DVD-R drives. I would be suprised if DVD-R drives aren't at least twice as fast and half the cost on average by the end of next year. I'm willing to wait. If you aren't, then by all means jump in. The waters are always warm when the deal is hot like this. With the apparent successs of those getting MSN + all the other rebates and coupons, that might would get me to join you.

I got this drive as follows:

$239.99 for Verbatim DVD+R/RW Drive
$49.99 for Cendyne (Liteon - Hopefully) 48x12x48 CD-RW
+ 19.80 Tax (TX 8.25%)
- 50 off 250
- 30 Cendyne MIR
- 40 Verbatim MIR
- 51.96 MSN Rewards
---------------------------
$137.82 - for a top of the line CD Burner and a decent DVD Burner. Not bad IMHO when I think about paying $300 for a Yamaha 8x4x24 two or so years ago. A lot of bang for my buck.

Plus I plan on selling the Cendyne locally for $50 so my personal realized total will be: 137.82 - $50 = 87.82 for a brand new DVD Burner. If I can sell my current DVD Player w/ MPEG-2 decoder card for like $40 maybe my personal final total will be $47.82, lol... but that is only my deal b/c I am selling the other things. Amazing what I accomplished in one afternoon 🙂

What happened going through the MSN link>?

As long as you use your MSN wallet, the 20% is given to you. I've made 500$ worth of purchases over the span of 5 experiences, using the MSN link for 0 times, and still got my 100$ in MSN dollars. At first I thought the same thing and that I had screwed up because I didn't receive my MSN dollars right away for a purchase, but it just turned out that they were delayed in sending the email.

Word...I give it to them at cost, but some of them try to negotiate and want it for half of the price I paid for :disgust:

johto: lol, get off your throne... I didn't say a friend. I build computer system locally for friends and people who approach me professionally. IMHO $50 is a great deal for a top of the line CD Burner w/ free labor and lifetime support. Believe I put in my fair share of tech support for friends and customers to earn that extra money. Plus I'm eating the cost of the rebate for 3 months+. Next time you feel like ripping into someone's character get the whole story you judgemental prick.

Word of warning.

i'm not sure any of the coupons work on this deal because the item apparently falls under the category of "Specialty item".

I just purchased this thru a 40 off 200 coupon link which should have taken 40 off my final price, it didn't. i was mildly disappointed.

so here is what i ended up with.

299 - 60 - 40 mir - 20% for MSN + tax.

I placed an order earlier today and it took the $50 coupon with no problem. I just check it again with the $30 coupon and it got all the way to the final screen with the coupon reflecting in the total......not sure why it didn't work for you......

Officemax website says $30 rebate, and i don't see a link on their website. Where did you guys get $40 rebate?
Also, just want to make sure i understood msn wallet correctly, you don't get money only credit to future purchase right? Thanks.

Yeah, in February MSN will let us evidently use MSN dollars for payment through the MSN wallet. Here is a link to the $40 rebate.....Text

I was a little worried when I saw $30 MIR as well on the web page but yep, it's a $40 just as Jmman posted 🙂 He beat me to it.
