actually, i'm getting that from the manufactures specs on compatibility. i've hit multiple stored and web sites and i have only found one dvd player that says it's dvd+ compatible - i think it was a jvc single-disk player. since i want a 5-disk unit that does me no good at all. frankly, i trust the player manufactures a lot more than a dvd+ fanboy site, or any questionably reliable anecdotal information.

thanks, tho.
I guarantee you that the thousands of poeple who own DVD+ drives and drives that write both DVD+ and DVD- who have backed up thousands of DVD movies using their DVD+ drives will disagree with you. If dvd players were only compatible with the dvd- format there wouldn't be a DVD+ format and a dvd players doesn't have to say it's compatible with DVD+ to be compatible.

ok, i'm very frustrated and confused. can anybody offer any advice to me?

while this deal is for dvd+ burners, it seems that most, if not all, dvd players are only compatible with the dvd- format. however, the only dvd- burner i've found in stores is the sony combo drive which goes for a whopping $350!!!!! since i want this drive to burn video disks to play on my home theater, a burner that isn't compatible with dvd players is worthless. however, given the lack of dvd- burners on the market, i'm wondering if this format is dying out and it's just a matter of time before most players can accept dvd+. does anyone have any thoughts on this, or inside knowledge, or anything?

thanks in advance,

joe

DVD-R is slightly more compatable than DVD+R, but 4% isn't really that big of a difference.

Ha, yep, that's what mine says too. Hopefully, we get the cendynes :) It must be an area thing because Smolak says his is supposed to arrive tomorrow, yet I ordered at 2am on sunday morning...

In any case, I made a few calls today about the cendyne only rebate fiasco and couldn't get a single straight answer. I simply do not believe that cendyne would give out $30 for buying a verbatim drive. Mysticman must be one heck of a smooth talker because I tried repeatedly to a.) PM to staples and b.) find out if the cendyne rebate would be honored. a.) Denied, b.) remains unknown.

First of all, the verbatim drive is no longer listed on the OM website (and the cendyne still isnt), second of all when I questioned the rep, she entered in both SKU numbers and they BOTH come up as the cendyne now. So I'm like OK, so do you know for sure I am getting the cendyne? Course, she has no idea and I can't cancel my order because they already sent out the $10 item.

This has to be the wierdest most ambiguous deal ever. They advertise two drives that are backordered or arent even in the system, then they change both skus to the same drive, and the mfr rebate is only from one of the companies. Overall, I have spent over 2 hours on hold and 1+ talking to reps who have no idea what is going on.

Your post count does nothing to subtantiate your miraculous claims. I don't know how you manage to evade explicit policies or get information that OM representatives can not provide, but I sincerely hope you have evidence other than your luck with idiots that would suggest a completely different company would hand out checks for drives they didn't make and are not mentioned anywhere on the rebate itself.

For those who ordered it and are concerned, I would advise you to call OM and ask for the updated status.

Today I called just to check the details of the order (online says canceled, yesterday a csr says item has been shipped) and found out that since it wasn't available in the local warehouse the original order was canceled and they placed another order for it to be filled through a different warehouse.

Are we sure the OfficeMax rebate is for the Cendyne? The OM rebate form says Cendyne DVD-RW, not +RW as the drive is.
Please correct me if I'm not reading it right.

zOInks747,

I print both forms and it confirms your finding

1) OM has rebate ($40) for Cendyne DVD-R/W but no rebate for DVD+R/W.
2) Cendyne has rebate ($30) for both DVD-R/W and +R/W models.

All calculations on DVD+R/W taken on both rebates are wrong. It only works on -R/W model.

That stinks :|
I was really wanting to get the Cendyne at that price!
Can we get an update to the thread then to let everyone know, please?

Well, I don't think verbatim even makes a dvd-rw drive, but it is listed on the $40 rebate which leads me to believe that OM is just stupid and pays no attention to the actual format. You'll be able to use the rebate. If you didn't it would be false advertising. Better ask mysticman to be sure though, he seems to be quite good at understanding ambiguous logic.

LOL, you Junior Members are cracking me up, first you worried about the Verbatim rebate now you're worried about the CenDyne rebate and you haven't even received the DVD drive yet. It does matter that the Officemax rebate says DVD-RW as long as the rebate processing company and Officemax knows that the rebate is for DVD+RW drives. If that's to much for you to handle I would suggest that you immedeately cancel your order and that will solve all of your worries. ;)

BTY: I did the Staples PM to Officemax on Monday, but all PM over a certain amount have to be approve at the corporate office and I'm still waiting for them to tell me if it was approved. I will update as soon as I hear from the CSR.

FYI: The CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R drive is MFG by NEC (NEC-1100A) DVD+R 4x, DVD-RW 2x, DVDRom 12x max, CDR 16x, CDRW 8x,CDRom 32x

How did you get Staples to PM the OM Cendyne drive? The OM circular I see has the Verbatim drive pictured.

I called my local Officemax store yesterday and ask if they had the CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R Drive in stock and was the price the same as the Verbatim 2.4x, the answer was yes they have it iin stock and yes the price is the same as the Verbatim 2.4x, I then had Staples call the Officemax store for the PM of the after rebate price. I also used a $30 off $150 Staples coupon.

Regardless of inconsistency in the company's rebate forms, what MysticMan1 said is "trust me". Either you have to independently verify the claim, "trust him" or "worries". One of the 3 above actions is rational.

PS: I printed out the weekly special for In-Store Specials for Los Angeles, CA and here is the thing that you can use to back up your rebate if OM doesn't take "trust me" claim. Note: This is for In-Store only and not valid in other areas.
