but yeah i was planning on getting a hard drive and using HDAdvance in the future to play games without loading time. X-Men Legends has killer loading time, and someone who plays it on a HD claims it has absolutely no loading time. that's the advantage. other systems do have more reliable hardware and faster loading times, and sony constantly has to release up-to-date versions in order to keep their systems working properly. while it is a weakness, they do try to make up for it. there were some people who sent in their old PS2s to get completely free updated ones. that's fair.

when Xbox hit Japan, there were tons of problems, resulting in a failure of the system hitting it big there in general. Sony is only on its 2nd system working on the third, and only has a bit more experience than Microsoft when bringing systems to another country. Nintendo has been doing it for years.

as long as my PS2 keeps running ok, i don't see a need for an updated, smaller, slightly faster model for $50 though!

It says here near the bottom of the page that the old Multitap and the stand are both incompatible with the new unit.

Woohoo......super Hot deal.

They took in 3 of my crappiest games that probably were worth no more than $1.50 inexchange for $30.
They didnt even check if my PS2 works, which it does. =)

Thanks

I was told that if I preordered I would have my new PS2 by today, Friday 10/29. All of the Minneapolis stores that were expecting them today did not get them. One of the stores said they had spoken to the Sony rep and they won't receive them until mid November.

Nice, mine is traded in and no new PS2 for 3 weeks! Anyone else get there's today?

so whats stopping me from buying their cheap, pre-played games and trading them in towards the $10/ea credit? are there any rules against that?

Solema, or anyone else that knows. Are you saying you were able to reserve a new PS2, and keep your old PS2 for now, and are they then still gonna give you the 100.00 dollar credit when your new PS2 comes in? I wouldn't think they would do this since the offer expires tomorrow, but what do I know. It would be great if you could, since I too don't want to miss out on any GTA:SA or ace combat gaming right now.

Every EB in the Twin Cities area says they are sold out of the slim PS2. Has anyone had any luck with getting the credit for a commitement to buy the slim PS2? (The one store I asked said "no way, you have to buy it on the spot")

MonkeyK and coolred, you have to buy it on the spot, that means your old system has to be traded in which gives you a "Pre-Order" status.
I was promised one by today, but it didn't happen. I hope that store was wrong about mid-November. Would also like to be playing GTA right now.
The deal is totally worth it and it does expire tomorrow, there just aren't any guarantees on how long you will be without a PS2. Bastards!

Thanks Scalptrash. The manager at the store I went to would not give me the pre-order option. I'll try at another store tomorrow morning.

I went to EB this evening and traded in my PS2 and 5 of the oldest games that I have. 4 of 5 of the games were still in the wrapper (thanks to Target clearance and my lack of time.) The worker told me that there are no restrictions on trade-in games, so they accepted -

NCAA Football 2002
NCAA Final Four 2002
Madden Football 2002
Dino Stalker
Dark Summit

Run and unload your games ASAP. Although, my new PS2 is on pre-order until next week (maybe.) Good luck.

I stopped in there today and they still have 6. GTA- SA is freaking AWESOME! So is this little dvd case they call a pstwo!

YMMV. I just called a few stores around Cleveland, and they all basically told me that in fact there ARE restrictions on the titles you can trade in. He basically then proceeded to list a few titles off the exclusion list on EB's site which does in fact list a few of the titles you mentioned:

(201385-2) NCAA FOOTBALL 2002 PS2
(204883-3) NCAA FINAL FOUR 2002 PS2
(205816-2) MADDEN 2002 PS2

The following games are not eligible for special trade-in offers. These games can still be traded in at regular trade-in values.

Dang, I am just not sure if this deal is worth not being able to play for possibly a month or more, hopefully less though. If they could guarentee me that they would have them in next week, then I would do it for sure.

All of the EB's in the San Antonio area are sold out and currently taking preorders. It'll be about a week or 2 before they get more in they say. It's gonna suck not being able to play GTA for a while but it'll be worth it to get the new system. Plus they'll give me $10 for my network adapter that I will no longer need!

actually, even if they tell you there are restrictions, the COMPUTER is the one who decides on the exclusions and since it is not excluding anything for this particular deal (not even my poopy ps2/xbox game mix) you should be fine as long as you can convince them to scan it all in.
