Hmmm.. decisions decisions.. This thing would be perfect for my wive's van, have movies and games on the go for the kiddies..

I've got to hand it to Sony, this is a brilliant and I mean brilliant idea. With the console market near saturation how do you sell more hardware? Answer: You get existing owners to "trade in" their consoles so they can buy pretty much the same thing all over again.

Guess Sony wants all the modable ones back. Also they can brag about selling 5m+ PS2s In Nov-Dec. For some reason Xbox fans think the Xbox an H2 will push Xbox sales higher than PS2 for the rest of the year. I don't think so and I am an Xbox fan who doesn't have a PS2.

Nice deal. I have one of the original PS2's and it's been flaky as of late. Good time for a swap.

Well, my old PS2 is going to be traded in for an Xbox. I personally can't wait for Halo 2.

Unbelievable. People will actually 'trade in' their fuctioning PS2 unit, which is now umpteen years old, and pay to get a newer version of the exact same thing? It's no wonder that Sony has such a huge market share. People will buy every damn thing they release. I hope to God that their PSP crashes and burns with a vengeance. Nintendo and Microsoft seem to be trying to bring new things to the console market while Sony just rests on their laurels while companies produce 800 games/day on their system. I dunno...I own a cube, and have seen Xbox and PS2 in action quite a bit, and I just can't see how someone would buy a PS2 at this point. The jaggies are just too much...

Ah well.

Your defending a company that charges you to play online while sony is free and your defending a company that only has one game to play online. Oh yea sony is the one that is taking your money. Please keep in mind that this is a deal done by EB games not sony. Ebgames is the one making the money from this deal not sony. If this was a deal coming from straight from the manufacturer it would be different.

Im just saying "I don't get it". As Dud said, congrats to Sony for somehow being able to sell PS2 systems to people who already own them. People on this forum are both smart and cheap, so Im sure this is a deal of some sort. However, considering the market share Sony has, and the average intelligence of consumers, Sony could crap in a box and sell it as an add-on for $50 and people would preorder it.

i wonder if the old multi-tap is compatible. keep in mind it's not as simple as plugging it into a controller port, it has to plug into both memory card AND controller port, so the spacing must be the same for this system in order for it to happen...

but yeah i was planning on getting a hard drive and using HDAdvance in the future to play games without loading time. X-Men Legends has killer loading time, and someone who plays it on a HD claims it has absolutely no loading time. that's the advantage. other systems do have more reliable hardware and faster loading times, and sony constantly has to release up-to-date versions in order to keep their systems working properly. while it is a weakness, they do try to make up for it. there were some people who sent in their old PS2s to get completely free updated ones. that's fair.

when Xbox hit Japan, there were tons of problems, resulting in a failure of the system hitting it big there in general. Sony is only on its 2nd system working on the third, and only has a bit more experience than Microsoft when bringing systems to another country. Nintendo has been doing it for years.

as long as my PS2 keeps running ok, i don't see a need for an updated, smaller, slightly faster model for $50 though!

Working, uhh...i have an unreliable PS2 that is many years old. I would be happy to get $100 bucks from someone instead of shelling out 150 for a new one. Plus i get a network adapter ( there will be a Online GT4 later on)

Why would someone do this? I bought my PS2 just for GT3 and I would do the same for GT4.

Not hot for you but hot for others so dont post stupid stuff.

damn.... id want a thin one so it would be quieter when youre trying to watch a movie....

I don't watch movies on my PS2 (that's what my DVD changer is for) but the new one is dead silent. Doesn't have a fan in it and the DVD-ROM drive is pretty quiet.

Evilyoda: Price on the new PStwo (I think they're calling it that to denote it from the old PS2) is $149 so it should be $49 plus tax.

Who needs it to be silent? I can't ever hear my xbox over the TV, much less my HT system.

Everydamn game store ran out in 2 days wihtin 70 miles of me.
I had to pre order it from EB and it arrived yesterday.
Very very small and the top loading drive is so much better

2 things. First, buying a console system for one game is ridiculous IMO (and lets not forget that GTA3 is available for PC, where it looks much much better). PS2 has roughly 8 million games, so if you only play one you're just an idiot.

And second, you're just furthering my Sony bashing with your post. Your PS2 (and apprently many other peoples as well) is already unreliable? Every console Ive ever had, down to the NES, still works fine. Hell, you could probably drive your car over my genesis and it would still work. Sony makes a system that breaks down and then wants people to pay to upgrade to the same thing? It just doesn't make sense and neither do you.

Ok how long did it take for GTA3 to come out on the PC? They didnt come out at the same time. I didnt want to wait for it to come out on PC. You speak to me like that is the only game i have for PS2. Just to let you know I have 40+ games stored on my 120gig HD that i play on my PS2. You need to quit jumping to conclusions. Sorry but NES and its cartridges where built not to last. My NES broke but it did last me a long time.

Also it is not the same thing. Look at what you are getting when you trade in. A smaller, quieter, PS2 with a built in network adapter and its top loading so there is no tray to break. Its not the same thing.

Enough with the arguing this is stupid. Why not start a thread about which console is better, who cares?

This will be a good deal for me since my ps2 bought refurbed and cheaper than this is on its last leg. I can either pitch it for nothing or trade it in and have a brand new more portable ps2 for $50.

Can anyone confirm this is nationwide?

I can confirm in Minnesota. Traded in my old PS2, 3 controllers, 4 games, network adapter and DVD remote and got $165 towards the new PS2.

Breakdown:
PS2 console $100 (normally $70, but you get $30 extra towards new PS2)
Controllers $5 ea.
Games $10 ea. (any title, including classics. They gave me $10 for a Jampack!)
Network Adapter $10
DVD remote $3 (you no longer need the sensor w/new PS2, it's built in, but I never used mine anyway)
Verticle stand $2

So, the real deal is in the console (+$30) and in the games ($10 ea. any title).
Considering you get a controller ($25) and the network adapter is built in ($30), not to mention the size, the new one is a steal.

Has anyone seen the new verticle stand and/or how much it is?

Dunno about the new ones, but a lot of people who have had PS2s for a while know all about disk read errors; these errors are not uncommon, let me tell you. If I had a working PS2 that I've had for a while, I'd definitely trade it in to get a brand new unit for $50.

hmmm....my ps2 is missing its screws ( I have to keep adjusting teh laser) and serial number sticker. that said, it is on it's last leg. It plays games, but will not even read DVD movies. You think EB would take mine?

Gibson, you could probably get screws at a hardware store, but the serial number is another story. It has to be working properly to trade it in and w/o a serial they could assume it's stolen, so I doubt they would take it.

I actually waited in line for mine on the day they came out and have never had a single issue with it. That's over three years.

I found the verticle stand for the PS2 Slim (new name), it ships November 1 for $14.99.

Do you need a controller with the old ps2 to exchange it? I do not have the original controller.
