*DEAD* Today, Jan. 15th Only: Sandboxie Personal License $14.14

Thanks a million gba!

Sandboxie is one of my favorite security programs and has many tricks up it's sleeve. I've been using the free version for about 1 year and love it.

For those that haven't heard about Sandboxie, it's a sandbox type of app that you run your browser or other internet facing app in. When your done browsing, delete the contents of the sandbox and everything including cookies, cache, malware, etc. are all gone. It can even be configured to only run your browser and give it internet access (within the sandbox) and nothing else. In other words, malware can't run in the sandbox as it's not permitted. There are also many other features. Check out their site and FAQ's for more details.

Cheers,
balloonshark

I have heard a lot about Sandboxie lately on the Security Now podcast and was thinking about checking it out. With this sale price, I think I might just get it. The only problem I have is that it wont work on my 64-bit machines.

Yes, it is true it won't work on 64-bit systems.

There are older versions that might work on XP 64 bit, but you would have to remove a Windows update. See last paragraph in link above.

Last 64 bit version was 3.0. http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?OldVersions

You are most welcome... I, too, swear by Sandboxie and was just about to purchase a license, when I found out about this deal on the Sandboxie forums.

I never surf the web without Firefox sandboxed and No Script enabled (that is, unless I am on my Vista x64 machine).

just tried the free version. on my P8600+4gb setup, it slows down my firefox like crazy... i'm not likin it so far..

Does it just slow down the start up of FF or actual surfing? The slowdown of anything starting in Sandboxie is normal because it copies many of the needed files and starts 2 other needed services in addition to whatever your running.

At any rate, their forums are pretty helpful. I also haven't tried the new version 3.34 because it was just released and has new features.

Once it is running, Sandboxie is not supposed to slow you down at all... I am running v3.34, which introduces the "Drop My Rights" feature, which removes Admin group membership from any program you sandbox. *very cool*

Check out this edition of the Security Now Podcast. Steve Gibson thoroughly explains what Sandboxie does and interviews its dev.

would this program be for me if (for example): i want to go to a porn site that is known to install a virus/spyware and want to be safe from it... will this program protect my system successfully?

What is the difference in protection from Sandboxie vs. surfing from a virtual machine? Does it offer better protection against malware and viruses?

Awesome, thanks for the heads up.

I've been using the 'free' version for a long long time myself now, but after 30 days you have (minor inconvenience) 5 second countdown and have to click a continue button on a nag purchase screen.

50% savings is pretty hot!

Just have to decide if I want to pony up $15 or continue to deal with the nag screen.

Great find OP...definitely jumping on it when available. The licensing for this software is great as it includes lifetime updates and multiple PC installs are allowed. Heard the interview with the author on Security Now and he sounds like a good guy, worth supporting his efforts with a few bucks..

Thanks... Indeed, the dev seems cool and more than reasonable... I sure hope he figures out a way to get Sandboxie to work on Vista x64 and Win7 x64.

Bump!

The deal is now in effect. It runs the 15th only from midnight to midnight eastern standard time. I've already grabbed my lifetime license for $14.56 😉.

If you don't know what Sandboxie is, please have a look at their site and have a read. It's an awesome feeling being able to surf anywhere and click on any link without malware destroying your system.

Thanks again gba

Does it support 64-bit OS yet?

hmm.... sounds like a condom might be in order there.

i think this is a lot like vmware thinapp.

it shoudl be doing a lot of function rerouting to do sandboxing, so it definitely will slow down your PC a little. but most pcs are fast enough to deal with that.

Does this work the same way as thinapp? Where you install software and it repackages it into a standalone executable?

No it doesn't work in that manner at all.

It sets up a stand alone container or sandbox which everything runs inside of and you can throw parts or the entire sandbox away at your discretion as necessary and whatever is in the sandbox can NOT interact with anything on the hard drive, including the registry.

The Web sites FAQ file would be a good resource for you to get a better understanding.

This is the way the internet should always be viewed...through a sandbox that is. Thanks for the heads up OP, I'm going to pick up my copy now!
