NOTES:

I'm not sure if the three motherboards listed above support Non-Z overclocking at this time. (But the price is so cheap for these combos I'm thinking a person can't go wrong even if they don't overclock)

With that mentioned, both Gigabyte Boards mention "Improve Intel K-sku CPU performance" in the BIOS notes. (for the B-85 this is in the beta BIOS, but for the H81 this is listed in the F5 BIOS)

I could not find mention of Non-Z overclock for the MSI B85 Gaming board, but judging by the looks of it I wouldn't be surprised at all if it had it.

I bought the middle one, but not because I am going to actually use them together. it was just too good a deal to pass up. I needed a CPU for one thing, and a mobo for another. The 3258 might not ever be OCed where its going, after I use it for some benchmarking.

Damn good deal. Picked up the bottom one. May use it to replace my Core 2 Duo home server.

I am not really interested in this product but I did a quick google search for I thought your question was interesting and novel. Since it does not affect me I am done researching and I wish you good luck.

But in the above video "supposedly" with this msi model (I am assuming he is not lying or modding his image from his monitor) he has an i5 k model with a 45x multiplier instead of 34x and with turbo it can kick it up to a 38x multiplier with the first motherboard you listed.

Thus I assume msi did not lock out this "feature" to change the multiplier on the pentium models, but it maybe be possible they did. The whole point about an unlock sku is that is treated identically to a k model with the multiplier.

It is likely the gigabyte models also have a similar feature (likely but not confirmed)

But hey, sometimes companies are stupid to make artificial segmentation so you pay more. That or they have not yet updated their bioses yet.

Another source for the msi board

Roland00Address thanks for posting those videos. Even though the one with MSI B85-G43gaming was from 2013, I think it is probably safe to say it will still Non-Z overclock today based on this MSI facebook post from June 2014:

"Did you know that ‪#‎MSI‬ H97, H87 and B85 motherboards could also OC the new Devils Canyon Intel CPU’s? Overclocking is no longer limited to Z97!"
