I'm pretty sure if you buy DOW2 from direct2drive you'll get a serial number that you then enter into steam, which handles all the updates itself. There should be no problems due to direct2drive.
 
Can anyone confirm using the serial number for Steam, I really don't think you can. I've been waiting for this game to go on sale, but I don't really want it on D2D 🙁
 
Yup did some research and it seems D2D basically gives you a retail key for DoW2 which you can then download from D2D or link it up with Steam and download it from there. Proved wrong in a good way :thumbsup:, thank you for this OP.
 
Is D2D something I have to install like Steam or do I just download the game from them and that's it? I'm thinking of getting Stalker, I've been hearing a lot of good things about it.

Edit: Nevermind, I bought it regardless, I guess I'll find out soon.

I'm fairly certain that Direct2Drive doesn't make you install any extra software to run their games except for Dawn of War 2, which requires activating it (and playing it) through Steam.

 
This is beyond frustrating... payment fails no matter what type I select from. Would like to take advantage of this deal.

Same here... just won't take my credit card. Transaction fails and it is not my card. Their support section is worthless.

yep. was going to buy DOW, but it rejects my CC. i know steam works though. damnit steam, run 50% off of DoW2 already *shakes fist* :|
 
I never got my CC or Paypal to work, they gave me a generic transaction failed error and they give no information on their support page. I'm insanely tired of these online companies refusing to have real customer support. My friend who wants me to play DoW2 with him ended up using his card as his works and mine doesn't. I'm never going to use D2D again (not that I technically used it this time). The deal is great and it was a good post OP, but I hate D2D from this experience.
 
First post in a really LONG time lol

Anyway, I got the same CC 'transaction fails' message blah blah

So, what i did was go to the file cabinet and pull out my bill and look to see if my address was correct, turns out I had it a letter or 2 different, I didn't include the DR (standing for drive)

So I changed my address to match my bill PERFECTLY and viola! it went through
hope this works for the rest of ya

wow, that was exactly the problem. i typed out "court" but my bill is abbreviated "CT"

Wow, I had no idea that they were so picky when it comes to entering your credit card info.
 
The deal is still live, although hard to find on the Direct2Drive website. Following the link at the start of this thread I was able to pick up Warhammer 40k II for the $25 price just a few minutes ago.
