I bought this last night, after a ~6hr download. Now whenever I start the game, I get the splash screen, then it goes away, then....nothing. So i'm trying to troubleshoot this.

Can anybody tell me if Forceware 175.16 works with STALKER? I don't want to bother updating drivers unless it is necessary.

I am having a similar issue- the game freezes at the splash screen, and never gets past. I have to close the XR_3DA process in task manager to exit out, so I assume something is wrong with the game engine initialization.

Vista 64 Ultimate, all up-to-date, and running a 9600GT with the 180.48 drivers.

I've got Vista 32 Ult with a 8800GT running the 180.48 and it works fine for me.

Update your drivers and stop being lazy.

edit - just downloaded and installed it. Runs with no issues.

XP Pro SP3
8800 GT w/ 180.48 drivers

Okay, thanks for the info.

The only reason I don't care to update drivers (unless necessary for something specific) is that you sometimes introduce new bug(s) or new issues. I'm not knocking the companies or the drivers they develop, so don't get me wrong. I just tend to be a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of guy. I'm just that way with software. In this case, it might just be broke. I will report back.

Runs fine for me Vista64 SP1 9800GTX+ 180.48
I guess I was expecting a little more in the graphical department but nothing to complain about. I don't want to start another game though since I just started Fallout 3. I guess this'll have to wait until I finish F3.

get out of here stalker!

If I never had to hear that phrase running through my head again, I'd be a happy man. I got to the point where I couldn't help myself from killing that guy every time I passed, then sitting over his body unloading my ammo.

$5 for a game this good and with this much content is too cheap. I'm still working on Clear Sky.

Is anybody having audio problems with this game? I tried both the -dsound parameter and updating the OpenAL dlls, but sounds still cut out when I'm looking straight at an NPC who is speaking, as if there's a center channel. If I turn to the left or right I can hear them through the corresponding speakers. All my system settings are correctly to set to stereo/2.1.

Bit the bullet on this today. Probably won't like it but for $5 its worth a shot. Thought this was a weekend deal only?

prob wont like it.

the game is frustrating beyond belief, the guns dont shoot anywhere where you tell them to.

it's sad. 🙁

You just need to get used to it. It's not that hard. As you get better guns, they get more accurate, but being used to games like far cry 2 where you can snipe someone with an assault rifle 100M away, you'll have to get used to more realistic expectations from your guns.

as a competition shooter, i have realistic expectations from my guns.

the guns in this game fail to meet any expectations. they are made of fail.

sniping with an assault rifle 100 meters away would be piss easy. 100 meters is not very far.

i've seen competitions as far as 600 yards with iron sights.

Official Forums

http://stalker.heroesradio.com/ is probably the best site for game tips, walkthroughs, and lots of spoilers.

The Oblivion Lost mod includes other mods that add more weapons and give many weapons more realistic accuracy. I found that made the game too easy. You can play right through with a beginners gun (the mod allows repairing items). The unmodified game starts you off with crap weapons on purpose, but as has been noted, the weapons get much better as you go along.

Anyway, lots of good mods available to try when you finish the first go around.

Check out the forums, lots of single player mod action, but notice multiplayer has always been nearly dead.

Downloaded and finally tried it.
P8400 4 gigs ram 9800GTX Raid 0 Win XP Pro runs great.

But it makes me sick just like Half Life 2. My eyes start to hurt and I get sick to my stomach. HL2 did this to me also. Any ideas on how to fix this?

DL No Headbob mod

-Unpack the gamedata files to a gamedata folder
