If you pirated this game then buy this now...you know who you are...

😛

Great Price if you havent played it yet

Can mods be used with the Steam version?

I've not played the game yet, but hear the mods are plenty and improve gameplay. I'd be hesitant to pick up this version if they can be used.

yes, they will work fine

the below post was written by Un_pro from FPSBanana.com

For mods, create a gamedata folder in your stalker directory. Using the stalker data unpacker tool, extract all the .db (example .db1 .db2 .dba .dbb .dbc) files into that folder. Now you can install mods into the gamedata folder.

For trainers, replace the regular XR_3DA.exe with a noDVD fix .exe, and voila.

I now have a Steam version of Stalker identical to the retail version.

Thanks. About to place the order.

I already own a retail copy, but for 5 bucks, I think I'll add it to my Steam account.

That's what I did as well. Now when I move, I can install it any time I want without having to find the disc.

sorry for threadcrapping but I hated this game...some like it so I guess it wasn't that bad but I thought graphics were subpar and I couldn't get into it

You are right that the graphics are nothing special; about the same as HL2, but the game is fun, and I have played through it 3 times. What is really fun about the game, is that all the characters interact with each other, and not just you. You are just another "guy" and things will go on without you doing a thing. It has the best AI in that way I have ever seen in a FPS.

Is the game scary any?

It is in parts. The blood suckers are cloaked like the Predator, and are really fast, and can scare the crap out of you.

I bought this last night, after a ~6hr download. Now whenever I start the game, I get the splash screen, then it goes away, then....nothing. So i'm trying to troubleshoot this.

Can anybody tell me if Forceware 175.16 works with STALKER? I don't want to bother updating drivers unless it is necessary.

The latest 180+ drivers are supposed to increase performance a decent bit for a lot of games. Probably a good idea to uninstall the old ones then install the latest ones.

I am having a similar issue- the game freezes at the splash screen, and never gets past. I have to close the XR_3DA process in task manager to exit out, so I assume something is wrong with the game engine initialization.

Vista 64 Ultimate, all up-to-date, and running a 9600GT with the 180.48 drivers.
