dead space question

I picked up dead space during the steam sale and when I started the game today (first time) to configure it the mouse behaved funny (this is not actually playing; just setting resolution/volume). Is this normal ?

mouse sensitivity is astronomically high in the menus. don't worry about it.

be more worried about how it reacts in-game. if the mouse slows to an absolute crawl when trying to aim, you'll need to mess with vsync settings to get it to speed up

Awesome game, loved it.
Controls aren't as bad as some would say, I had no problems at all.

I've been staying away from the consolized games for years, but I ended up getting GTA IV, Mass Effect 2, and Dead Space during the awesome Steam sale, and ended up getting the 360 controller. I find it very frustrating to play these 3rd person games with my KB and trackball.

Unfortunately, the Mass Effect PC version doesn't allow the 360 controller at all. I know that they've made exclusive PC version tweaks in the controls, but it would have been nice to have the option...

Thanks it was vsync. Kind of stupid that it is enabled by default (or even available to be set). Haven't played enough to comment on the controls but I play pc games for a reason (including pc controls 🙂 ).

I thought this game was well received but perhaps I was mistaken; anyways I will know for sure in a few weeks (have to finish kb-ap first; and it is a bit of a long game).

I disabled v-sync in game and forced it on in the Nvidia control panel and the mouse controls were just fine for me.
BTW:AWESOME game!
I loved it.

why enable it in the control panel ?
You dont have to, some people just dont care for the screen tearing from using no v-sync and like it enabled, while others say they barely notice it and leave it disabled.

Its a personal preference, but if you want it enabled , you are better off disabling the
in- game v-sync and enabling it in the video cards control panel to help eliminate the mouse lag in-game.

Mouse still lags a little in the menus, but who cares, its how it plays in-game that matters and this game was well worth it IMO.

I dont understand people that complain about the controls. Turn off vsync and it is fine. Must have a crappy mouse. ME is completely fine with mouse/kb, I thought we play these games on the PC for a reason? lol

I have one of the best mice available (MX Revolution). The controls in DS are just plain shit - why does the character turn around so fucking slowly all of the time? Why does the mouse sensitivity seem to change depending on my character's position and stance?

I dunno I never had a problem. g5 here. I do think I set 2 different dpis that I switched on the fly. I did that with BF2 also when I got in a tank, I just upped my dpi to have smoother turns.

I agree the controls were not the greatest, but after a little tweaking it was fine for me

The 3rd person, the slow turning, these were all on purpose to add something to the game. It was a horror/thriller game and it made it moreso with these "annoyances".
You might not like the game, but don't knock what they were trying to do as many people enjoyed it.

Well -- I finished KB so was playing a bit of Dead Space about 2 hours. Three 'issues'. First I'm not overly happy with the controls - mostly the mouse - this has a lot to do with the second issue

The other issue is the cramp view I keep wanting to zoom out a bit - the cramp view makes it difficult to get a perspective. That coupled with the difficulty in turning the view makes it a bit of pain.

Last but least the intro when you start the game is ok but after a few starts it gets annoying; is there an easy way to skip it? Most games allow ESC but that doesn't seem to work here.

Btw I'm a bit confused about one thing - why do i ahve this funky suite on but no one else does.

There are probably a bunch of .bik or similar files in a \movie folder somewhere in the install directory.
If you rename/delete/move them it should skip them. That's the way it is for many EA games.

Huh. How do I 'aim' the camera without him moving in the same direction ?
um move the mouse while not aiming. when you left click to aim the movement is slow when trying to look around. when not aiming you can turn and move regularly.

but that is how i always turn... hum. I wonder if caps lock was on.

Ok that was the problem; bleh nothing in the game indicated that caps-lock was on (it was prior to start of game). Now mouse is nice and smooth.
