Dead Space Game

I didn't have a problem with the controls although I've heard enough complaints that I suspect some people get problems.

I think the game is worth a play through. To me, though, it has no replay value beyond the first play.

I hated the "oh shit there's a monster" music, but the game seems to suddenly suck when you turn it down. Good game with good graphics. Hell I think I might play through it again.

I loved it. Dismembering enemies was fun, the gameplay stayed interesting throughout for me, and the graphics were awesome. I liked the little puzzle parts too - they were quite well done and usually the right difficulty. One of the greatest things is how smooth and dynamic the animations are. It's really cool seeing a monster realistically change its manner of walking based on how you shoot it. It makes them scary too - gives you that sort of, "AAAAH They just keep on coming!" feel. The weapons were also cool - I liked the secondary fire on all the weapons and the upgrading.

The story had some good enough twists to keep me interested too, although it was kind of predictable at times.

It's been fun so far. I got distracted halfway through because:

a) Started the Witcher
b) Still can't peel myself away from Left 4 Dead

It's good, but Dead Space is on the backburner for now. It's not nearly as scary as most people will say it is. Nice engine they got there though.

3rd person shooter. The story seems good, but the fact the camera includes the character is a no go for me. Too bad. I really enjoyed the first few steps into it.

What exactly is wrong with the controls?

Nearly unresponsive when you have the vsync on. Also they seem very slow and heavy. I don't know, try it. It's still a good game regardless of that

First of all, if you are left handed, and want to remap the controls, you're screwed. You have to download a remapping program to run in the background, to get the controls to even 'usable' levels.

Once that hurdle is jumped over, you find the movement very klumsy. Turning and moving with the keyboard/mouse is especially finicky. I'm having to really 'work' to get into this game. I hope the story does make up for the lousy controls. 🙁

I think the controls are meant to be slow and heavy. You can turn Isaac around pretty quickly when you're not aiming - I think the developers meant aiming to be used only when you're ready to shoot something, not just to look around like in CoD.

For those having problems with the controls being floaty or unresponsive, Force Vsync ON in the drivers for Nvidia users. That was the fix in the last Dead Space thread and also documented in at least 1 review. The problem sounds like an extreme case of input lag that gives you the floaty/swimming feeling with controls which makes sense given the game runs at some insane frame rates on Nvidia parts that don't look to be sync'd to input without forcing it in the driver.

I've read the game is quite excellent though and its been on my list of titles for some time. Just waiting for it to hit $30 on Steam or 48-hour madness. There's also a prequel movie on Blu-Ray that I watched which gives some of the back story.

I played it for about an hour and uninstalled it. I didn't like the character control, the weapon nor the combat; plus, if I want to do quests I will play Everquest 2. But that's just me - I didn't like Witcher or Far Cry 2 either. I like fast paced combat like the Half Life, Call of Duty, Crysis, and FEAR series of games and this wasn't in that catagory, at least not what I played of it.

Well didnt you know what those games were before you bought them?

make sure you have vsync off in the actual game and then force it on from Nvidia control panel. the in games vsync cuts the framerate exactly in half and feels laggy as hell. forcing it on from ATIs CCC did nothing at the time though newer drivers or using tray tools may work now.

One of my favorites from last year. I'm not a big FPS fan, so this was good for me. The "sluggish" controls are supposed to be that way. (Not the buggy v-sync issues, the regular controls)
I realy enjoyed the atmosphere and it's one of the few games I played through the end.
I will say that I only replayed it once with a "trainer" with unlimited ammo, and all the other cheats to just blow my way through it and see all of the upgraded weapons, etc.

I don't understand the point of your question. He asked for opinions of the game, I gave him my opinion and explained the reason for it since my dislike of the game has more to do with my personal preferences than with the inherent quality (goodness) of the game. I was explaining that I wasn't saying that the game was bad, just that if has the same preferences as me he might not enjoy it

What is it you are getting at or trying to ask me?

I was asking why you bought those games if you know you dont like the go here do this type stuff. Maybe it wasnt very clear with Dead Space but Far Cry 2 was very much advertised and presented as a mission type game.
