Can this be activated on Steam?

Unfortunately no.

However, the new Origin interface from EA is very similar to Steam and can be used to register the CD key that you will get from D2D. I'm downloading DS2 now and the download is running at just over 5MB/s on my 50Mbps cable connection.

So, how's the game? Should I play DS1 first?

im pretty sure the storys are linked so you should probably play DS1 first, just make sure you turn off vsync or the mouse is horribly slow
