Dead Sony MB

I have a friend who's house was struck by lightning. He didn't have his phone line plugged into his surge protector, and Poof, dead computer. I've tested most of the parts and the motherboard seems the big loss. I called up Sony for a replacement part, and they want 350 bucks for it. I tried calling several shops, and noone sems to be able to order the part shown in this p4b-lx link. Of course its a micro tower and so the microATX 9.6" x 9.6" (24.5cm x 24.5cm) board is the only size that will fit. Does anyone have a clue on a cheaper board that I could replace his with that might fit in his Vaio PCV-RX550? Its got a 1.5 p4 in it, and most the other specs are nice, I just feel bad for the guy.

This is why I have the best home owners policy I can find. If something happens to my 36 computers, they will be replaced by brand new ones and not by approximate value ones:D

As soon as I figure out how to pay my electric bill, I will be attaching them all to the anandtech team effort at SETI!

Thanks!

Has for your friend, suggest a new case and mb and a faster p4. For 350 bucks you prob can through in something else has well :)

but if it has to be small, try a shuttle case

Actually MicroATX is a standard for motherboard layout, so pretty much any P4-compatible mATX motherboard should fit in the case. However, if you want only Asus P4B-LX, try baber.com or you can contact Asus directly and see if they'll be able to replace the motherboard (as long as motherboard says Asus on it and not Sony).

Good luck!

I don't see the price for that board on Baber...I have to call for it or do they not really sell it?

Unfortunately he want to keep repairs under 100 dollars.

Found an ECS and an Abit board that should do the trick. Thanks for all the help!
