Just received my replacement. It is a Samsung SMG LTM190EX V4T05 Specs are as follows:

LTM190EX

19.0"
Resolution SXGA
Number of Pixels 1,280 x 1,024
Active Area(mm) 376.3 x 301.1
Pixel Pitch(mm) 0.294
Mode B-TN III
Number of Colors 16.7M
Color Gamut(%) 72
Contrast Ratio(typ.) 1,000:1
Brightness(cd/m2) 300
Response Time(ms at 25°C) 5 / 2(G/G)
Viewing Angle(U/D/L/R) 80/80/80/80
Interface LVDS (2Ch)

As you can see the Contrast Ratio is much improved over the original AUO they sent me.

YEAH! This one actually meets the specs of what I bought! IT even exceeds them in contrast. If the selling specs are going to be an average across the entire delivered product line it needs to say that!

Anyway. I'm happy now!

Well. Just recieved my replacement monitor from Dell, as the first monitor I recieved was experiencing significant backlight bleeding at the top. The first one was an LG panel from Reno, Nv. This one is an AUO from Austin, Tx. Not significant backlight bleeding, but a little around the top. The viewing angles on the AUO aren't the greatest either. You guys think it's worth another shot to try for the Samsung? Or should I just be happy that I have no dead pixels and no significant backlight bleed?

Thanks!

AUO panels are used in Benq and Viewsonic monitors.

what are you guys biatching about?

is it really that bad?

I don't think Dell would use B-grade AUO panels in their top product line.

Well, I can't speak for everyone else, but what I was "biatching" about is that the monitor they sent me didn't meet the specs of the one I ordered. This was because the AUO panel doesn't meet the specs. The Samsung does.

That seems pretty simple and straight forward to me...

based on user reviews, it seems like lots of 19" lcd's have viewing angle problems these days.
since AUO panels are used in benq and viewsonics, I'd imagine that viewing angle problems exist too.

Sonuva!!!

Well, my monitor arrived today. However! I saw this deal (the Dimension 5150 for $600) today as well, and since it includes the 2007FP monitor, I hopped on that deal as well. Haha.

So now I have the 1907FP sitting here and I'm going to get the 2007FP. I haven't opened the box yet or anything, so I don't know if it has a Samsung or AUO panel.

I don't know what to do with the 1907FP now.

Decisions decisions!

Update: After sending an email to my Dell SB rep. about my first LCD being AUO (not matching Dell's specs as mharrison said), it seems that my second monitor's order # got cancelled. Reason being, I don't know. I emailed a follow up to the previous email I sent which still has no response, as well as asked why the other got cancelled. I'll probably call in tomorrow and try to find out via another CSR... What the heck is going on?

Keep the 2007FP and return or sell the 1907FP.

Hi, I have a question: What method did those of you who have contacted dell support for a replacement use and do they charge any fees for the exchange? I have tried tech support chat and emailing but dell requires you to enter the service tag #, which i cannot find on the monitor, in order to access any of those features.

Thank you

I went to This Page
and selected Missing Damaged or Incorrect Orders. Filled out the form and explained that:

My 1907FP has an AUO panel. The contrast-ratio advertised on the site says 700:1, but instead this panel is 500:1 on the AUO. Also, the AUO has a brightness of 270cd/m2 vs the 300cd/m2 advertised on Dell's 1907FP tech-spec page.

I understand the correct panel is a Samsung component rather than the AUO as the Samsung meets the advertised specs.

They then shipped me the new monitor without requiring the original one be sent back first. They even included a DHL pre-paid shipping label with the new one to ship the old one back.

I hope that your luck goes as well as mine did.

And No they didn't charge me any additional fees.

mharrison. I did the same thing. I got a reply back and sort of used your own words.

I hope it goes as well as your experience. I'm hoping I can probably BUY this AUO unit instead of returning it. I kind of like this dual monitor setup ;)

My pair arrived from Austin today. Both Samsung SMGLTM190EX panels. I think I'll keep them. ;-)

They both look pretty good. Viewing angles are a bit restrictive, but I've only used CRTs before. Well, I got used to the convergence, pincushion and barrel distortion problems with CRTs. I guess I can learn to love flat panels.

Now I have to get a new video card with two DVI outputs to do justice to the second monitor, although it still looks pretty good on the analog output.

I received an LG LM190E03T2 panel. Tried to call tech support - they couldn't help. Tried the chat function - they gave me a replacement confirmation number. Two days later (today) I chatted again to check the status, only to find that the replacement had been cancelled and that I needed to go through tech support (which I thought I had). After a lengthy discussion, they said there was nothing they could do except refer me to sales to see about getting a new unit shipped out.

At this point, I decided to just return the damn thing. At least the product return people knew what they were doing and promptly gave me an RMA number. It's not worth the time or trouble just to save a few bucks.

Once again - how can Dell deliver products that do not meet the advertised specs?

I think Dell has a small problem with this issue; there are numerous forums on the web, as well as usenet posts, concerning the different panels installed in this LCD not meeting the advertised specs. I don't know how/why Dell would ship out of spec products when, if you get right down to it, that's tantamount to a bait & switch racket.

But I still can't imagine that Dell ran out of Samsung panels (if they were the original supplier for the 1907FP) and THEN put them on special using other panel makers -- with different spec panels -- due to demand. I think the different panels have been shipping with and without systems for a while now, and word of mouth on the variation, because someone discovered the problem and made it known, is reaching critical mass -- at least with PC enthusiasts.

I feel lucky (and good) in getting a Samsung panel: not because it's a Samsung, but because the other panels don't meet Dell's advertised specs and the Samsung does. If the other panels met the specs then it wouldn't be an issue. One poster says the software that came with the LCD told them the contrast ratio was 700. Software? How about going to the maker's web site? Anyone can put together a 'program' that tells you anything the maker wants you to know.

Computer items sell on brand recognition, price, and specifications. I think Dell is selling well on the first two, but I'm more than suspect of the last.

i couldn't agree more with you markhall, and rgr.

I'm currently going through emails right now about what the "reason" for my return is about. They want me to ship this at my own expense. I'm trying hard to explain what the issue is, but it's not flying with the customer rep I'm dealing with. I envy those that received the SAMSUNG, consider yourself lucky, and rgr is right, it's too much trouble for what it's worth if you do get unlucky and get a AUO panel. (even though it still looks great) but the SAMSUNG unit would have been sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Well I got an AUO panel a week ago and initiated an exchange a few days after. It still looks great, but as mentioned above, thats not the point; false advertising was the verdict. Now I just called them and find the bastards CANCEL my exchange. It took me two hours and 4 operators later to get the exchange processed in the beginning! This is the last straw... I'm gonna refund it.

edit: gonna give mharrison's method a try ;)

Well, I hope that you guys have good luck using the technique I mentioned. Honestly though, I think that it depends on who you get on the other end. I've been through Customer Service hell before and luckily didn't have to this time.

I agree with some of the earlier posts. Honestly, I thought that the AUO looked fine (except for a backlight bleed issue) and I imagine I would have kept it if not for the information I read on here and elsewhere about the specs. Hell, I wouldn't have KNOWN it didn't meet the specs.

I must confess that I have a problem. I have a strong belief in principle. I expect to get what I've paid for. So, I made an issue of it. Dell handled it promptly and fairly, so I can't complain.....too much.

If Dell won't make it right, contact your Credit Card company. Tell them that you were shipped a substandard product from what was advertised. Too bad they didn't ship it via USPS. Then it would be mail fraud!

But, give Dell a chance. Follow the method I listed above. Hopefully all will work out fine.
