i dont get these series at all either.
The wife played the old ones for a long while, and since getting the new one, hasnt stopped playing it.

Gotta admit the new one is alot better to look at anyway, not the 2d crap of the old sims franchise.
Cant believe how they milked that tired old game for so much money thru expansion packs, absolutely amazing.

It's single player, unless you pay for the Sims Online.
