I saw the barebone without cpu and ram at SoCal Fry's for 199.99. But they said it's been discontinued so it'll be hard to find it. SS40g has two PCI slots and no AGP, so you can't upgrade the video easily, and the onboard SiS video isn't that great. However, I was looking for this particular model to build my own TiVo machine. It already has s-video out, and all I would need is a capture card and a big HD (not to mention CPU and RAM). You might want to look at Shuttle's US Site to check out all the different models to fit your need.

ya, I know there is a new one that has AGP for AMD. And there is an Nforce2 one. but $300 seems very good for a x-pc with a 1700+ and 256mb ram. you cant beet that with a stick.

Looks likes this was too good to be true. They are gone. I see a link on the main site that has this setup for $350. I took too long to think about it! Missed it!

I have the SS50 model (Celery 2ghz @ 2.6) and love it. The s-video out is great quality, dvd playback is excellent. True, onboard video isn't the best in speed, but the fact is, it's perfectly fine for 800x600 playback, which is what most TVs can handle anyways. If you're looking to put one of these in the living room I think it's a great choice.

Looks to be back but out of stock. I bought one this time. If you figure in $50 for the RAM and $50 for the CPU you get the barebones for $200. The Barebones system is $230 so I saved $30. I hope this thing is quite. That is the only reason I bought it. With the heat pipe making a CPU fan Obsolute, I hope the power supply fan is quite. I hate my noisey HTPC I have now.

You'll also be able to eventually upgrade your motherboard i think the board in the SK41 is going to be available in about a month or two. Then the SN41's motherboard will be available but i'm not sure on that.. that's just what i've heard.
