Select Polk Monitor Series 55% off at NE with code PA55. Seems like a pretty good deal. Amazon has a similar deal going on the cherry finish (but not the black), but the items are not eligible for Prime, and some appear to be out of stock.

Considering getting 2 x 65T, 1x 25C, and 1 x 45B (pair) for a new theater setup. All in cherry finish, would run $638.95 shipped, down from Newegg's normal total price of $1419.92. Seems like a pretty good deal, although I'm still looking around for more reviews before pulling the trigger. Would be powering with an Onkyo 818 and using with at least one as-yet-undecided sub (or 2).

Thanks for the link.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a 2 x 55T, 1 x 15C, and 1 x 35B pair setup instead? It would lower the price to $427.48 shipped, down from $949.96.

There's a dedicated Polk thread over at avsforums where you could probably get info on that combo.

I have a very similar setup to that, I have the polk 50's in the front, 15C center, and I went with the R150s in the rear. It sounds really nice for the price, they are all run off of a Yamaha 7.1 receiver, and I have the BIC F12 Sub.

None. Polk is over priced junk. Entry level equipment priced out of it's range.

What would you consider to be "appropriately" priced entry level speakers? Not trying to bust on the thread, but I have never heard anyone say they have had issues with Polk equipment. I think there are many other brands that offer better sound, but for the price, Polk has never done me wrong.

Speaker selection is based on room size, power levels and budget more or less.

I have found most have far too much power/speaker for their rooms esp. in the sub department.

SVS, NHT, PSB, KEF, HometheaterDirect, Arx, HSU, Mirage all provide better stuff than polk. Sure you may not be buying a floor stander for that price. But thier bookshelfs will out perform a Polk floor stander. (which says alot about polk quality).

The only decent thing polk makes is the RTi series. But then again, for the amount those cost. I could open another argument of again, out of their price range. Because then you can be looking at Axiom, and Paradigm. And NHT floor standers.

For these prices, I am not sure you can go wrong.

I have some Polk speakers on my computer desk hooked up to an amp for PC sound. I think that the majority of stuff people listen to on PC is compressed and doesn't really make a huge difference if you have audiophile approved speakers.

while i don't really disagree with what you said none of those listed can hit the price point offered with the current discount on newegg

SVS doesn't even make cheap bookshelfs anymore

for people on a strict budget the pioneers are still IMO the best deal out there

I agree, Pioneer and Polk are really about the best deals out there at this price point. Of course I think some Klipsch and Paradigm sound more full, and vibrant, but show me where you can find them for less than 1k a pair. The only other speakers that come to mind at this price point are Jamos or maybe some of the BIc America series bookshelves, then it comes down to preference of horn tweeters vs domes.

For cheap bookself speakers, you would have a very hard time doing better than this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882325060

Even with the discounts, I wouldn't go anywhere near Polk instead of set of these.

You're not comparing apples to apples here though. Your link is to a $350/pair of bookshelf speakers. The OP's link allowed you to configure 2x55T fronts, 15C center, and 35B rears for $427. If you have or can get cheap stands you could drop down to the 45B as fronts and be at $360. I'll take your word on the Definitive bookshelves, but it hardly seems fair to compare two speakers versus five.

They are good speakers. During a fire sale last year I got two Monitor 50's and a CS1 along with an F12 sub and it's a great sounding set-up. For the money spent it's sounds very nice.

This deal is dead now, but the apples vs. oranges comparisons and general Polk/thread crapping made me laugh. FWIW, I didn't pull the trigger.

For anyone still interested, the Cherry-finish 25C has instant $200 savings, so you can actually get it now for even lower than the previous deal here.

The price went up for 450's. They were $250 when I posted the link. I wasn't comparing them to the cheapest Polk speakers that were on discount, I was comparing them to the most expensive that were on discount and about $100 a pair more than the DT 450's were.

The original post had a total of $640, not $427. 2 set's of 450's would have been $500, which would have been a much better sounding option than the Polks. No center channel, but $140 cheaper.
