Got one from CC, Made in Thailand, it is a 7200.10.

Sidenote, what is up with the "HONK if you love internal drives." Message on the inside flap of the box??

Got a question. If I order online from BB, and need to exchange it (ie. faulty drive), could I exchange it at my local B&M store?

It's tempting, but my next system build isn't scheduled until Nov/Dec (RetailEdge program), so i'm going to hold out on a hard drive & hope the prices will drop even further by then.

Don't expect it in your hands that fast. The past two years I have not received my cpu, motherboard, and software from the ReatilEdge program until sometime in February.

I got 2 China HD's with 7200.10............BUT it's firmare AAK which has been trashed by the internet community.

Firmware AAE is what you want, but there's no place to be sure to get one.

BTW, you can't flash the formware based on how the HDs are made!

it's on the label of the drive. you will see either AAK or AAE. AAK is the slow one and AAE is the fast one.

Got two, went to Circuit City and did the price match. Got both for $102 (or so) with tax.
Great price.

I forgot to check the firmware when installing the one but I'll check tonight. The other is still sealed but planning on putting it inside my daughter's pc.

thanks ActiveX!

I price matched at Circuit City and bought 2 and haven't checked the firmware version yet. I'll probably keep them regardless since I intend to just store data on them. Can't say I'm thrilled with Seagate's response to all of this. From what I have been reading on the NET, Seagate is denying/stonewalling this issue. They are claiming that the older version of HDTune is at fault, the AAK is just as fast and, oh by the way the 7200.11's are on the way
Caveat emptor!

From some benchmarks I've seen the AAK firmware seems more server oriented and seems to do okay on real world tests. It wouldn't bother me if it was a little slower though because I'm using them mainly for long term data storage.

both of my 7200.10's i got from BB are made in Thailand and are both AAK. i also read that AAK is slower on benchmarks, but in real-world apps it's just as good.

Got one from CC...7200.10...AAK. I asked them about the 110% pricematch and they said it's only if it's a CC price that drops. Could be bs...I didn't feel like arguing with the dude.

Yes, that was BS.
They are supposed to give 110% if you find a price that is lower than what they sell.
The only thing that is only for CC is the 24 min or you get $24 gift card guarantee on online orders and instore pickup.

If within 30 days from the date of our offer, you show us a lower, currently advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we will gladly refund 110% of the difference between our price and theirs.

When I purchased my 400GB Seagate from Best Buy last year the model number on the box indicated it was a 7200.9 but sticker on the drive said it was a 7200.10. I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being the case with these drives. Regardless, I think I am going to pick one up on Sunday.

Blah..mine was a 7200.9...older version

Thanks for the heads up. I will swing by my two local BB's and see if they have any, otherwise I might take their ad to CC and get a PM.

I got 1 China HD 7200.10 Also AAK Firmware. It's loud in my HTPC with two HD streams writing to it simultaneously (but it is an almost silent rig).
But sure doesn't feel slow... maybe I'll throw it in my file server instead, SPCR is saying the latest WD 500s are the way to go for noise at this size/price point.

This 7200.10 drive is way loud. It is now an official backup drive for me. I could care less about a few micro seconds. My other Segate 7200.10 is way quiet, huh
