I ordered on the 2nd or 3rd and was told 3-5 days. I let 10 pass before calling ( was too busy anyway) and was told that their system was having a bunch of errors that week and that the new date for my upgraded service is the 23rd.
So if anybody else hasn't seen their speed boost and ordered around that time, give them a call. I guess I'll post my result in 8 more days.

everage of my download is 180 gig a month for 5 months straigh and they are not complaint yet
since I update this packet. in 4 days i did download atleast 100 gig so far and still no call from sbc

I thought SBC dropped binaries altogether back in 2002 when Prodigy took over running their news servers.I wish I could get this. I'm stuck with sprint/earthlink because they are the only local service here. I pay 54.99/month for 1.5/256. The service has only been here since 12/02. I'm sure they've jacked the price because they know I/we can't get any other broadband service.
ugh...I also wish i could get this... I'm with verizon, have 768/128. I would pay $10 more for the speed!

You do realize he was asking about newsgroup file retention in binary groups which has little to do with total download amounts. It doesn't matter if you download 180 gb/mo if what he wants is on a newsgroup that SBC doesn't carry.

I am currently a mindspring user and would like to switch over. Anyone know how the cutover works?
Can I just call SBC and they can turn off the service from Mindspring and pop theirs on, or does mindspring have to release my account etc before I can get on with SBC? I'd be rather curious as it sounds like this process is rather time dependant.

How do you determine the speeds you're getting?
I routinely (about weekly) download around 200 megabytes of data from my client in 5-6 minutes. I'm on my old SBC/Pacbell DSL static IP plan still.

hehe or you could go for an extra 15$ /month with dslextreme which has 2x 256kbps connections to Supernews (no speed caps in getting headers), binaries that have a 1-2 week retention (I can retrieve some binaries from Feb.01).
Only gripe I have is that the connection varies througout the day, usually it slows down in the afternoon (5-7k/sec) and it sometimes times out.

They may be able to just do a hotswap. I called them up to switch and I was told I didn't need to cancel my current ISP. A week later, I was on SBC with just an hour or so of downtime. Afterwards, I still called my previous ISP though just to make it absolutely sure I'm not billed again.

Today my upgrade went through, I am currently getting 4Mbps down and 508Kbps up, I might have to try another router I think my old SMC BR model, might top off around 4Mbps. Hopefully my Netgear Wireless router will be faster.

Or just go with sonic.net like alot of us did for the same price. and get 1x512kbps connection to Supernews, 4xfull speed connection to newscene and also unlimited connection to news.sonic.net, their own news server. My speedtests are doing 5192kbps/528kbps.

CCCMTech is a SBC IS (SBC ISP) tech and not SBC-ASI which is the one responsible for the DSL circuit. toaster2k, beachboy, ADSL Guy are SBC-ASI and can do it but the problem is the line tests are only available if you already had DSL connected as it's readings from the DSLAM.
