I built a PC a couple of years ago that has worked completely reliably until the other day: the screen went off during use, then the computer wouldn't POST afterwards.

I had a hell of a time removing the stock heatsink yesterday evening, installed a spare 2200G I had, and the machine has booted. I'm fairly sure the processor is within warranty (AMD CPUs have had 3-year warranties since forever IIRC). I've tried the 5600G once since trying the 2200G but it still wouldn't boot. now that I've updated the BIOS I might try it one more time (maybe with revised AGESA info?) but my feeling is it worked in this board for a long time before it didn't, logically the thing that needs changing is the CPU.

I'm certainly sure there was even a thread somewhere around here about 5600G spontaneously dying, and it seems to be with that model in particular. Had a friend that apparently had a similar situation.

The 5600G system I traded for shotguns eventually became unstable with the 4.7GHz all core overclock. It still runs fine at stock in ECO.

Zen 2 is the generation I see reported the most. I do not leave any AMD CPU to the whims of the board makers. Either ECO or a negative CO. As I have mentioned before, I've seen the boards pump 1.5v+ vcore OOB.
