UPDATE: Press Release
Sequel to 1.5 million-plus seller announced for multiple gaming platforms
London ? February 9, 2009 - Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising? 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360? video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment?s PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3?) and the PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising?, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom?s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game?s Producer will play an active role in the project.

Released in 2006, Dead Rising won praise across the globe for its mix of intense zombie action and dark humour, garnering numerous awards including IGN?s ?Most Innovative Design for Xbox 360?, Gamespot?s ?Best Action-Adventure Game? for 2006 and ?Action Game of the Year? at the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Further details concerning the story and gameplay of Dead Rising 2 will be made available shortly.

Kotaku has some screenshots of the new Dead Rising hero battling it out in a Vegas style casino and using a motorcycle to run over zombies.

It has as a viral feel to it (ouch...I just realized how terrible of a pun that was).
If it is a fake, then kudos to whoever put it together.
If it is real, it should hardly come as a surprise in the sequel heavy business.

As pointed out in the YouTube comments, there are a number of clips that seem like they're from the original. The Mega Man clip appears to be at the mall's helipad; my guess is the explosion is failing one of the later Cases.

I don't like the Vegas theme as much as the rumored amusement park one, but this is now my most anticipated game. Hopefully there's a no-timer mode, and more so - hopefully it is out this year (I doubt it).

if it doesn't have a horrible save system like part 1 i may give it a go.

Surely to god they've read all the complaints over the last 3 years. I always wanted to like Dead Rising, but I didn't like the save system or the fact that you had to do everything in specific order and time to beat the game.

I didn't mind the setup of the original--I didn't like it, but I was still able to get into the game. I would definitely welcome changes there, though, along with improving the AI so escort missions aren't so frustrating.

I don't know, Capcom seems pretty committed to using frustrating game mechanics to build tension.

Besides Resident Evil 5, what else? Even in RE5 they tried to pander to a larger audience by adding strafing. 😛

Definitely looking forward to DR2. Once you got past the niggling little issues the game had, DR1 was a ton of fun. Add in a sandbox mode, a better save system, and a less insane schedule... well, it could be pretty freaking amazing.

wow I"m surprised Microsoft didn't try and keep this an exclusive. Maybe timed exclusive? I hope it out in the summer. But I'm definitely looking forward to using the american gladiator ball thing to crush zombies.

The original NA release of Devil May Cry 3, the difficulty was hard as hell and the orb system made failing a pain in the ass.

I actually like that approach, Resident Evil 5 has clunky controls but they are easy to master, it makes you feel more like an agent being overrun by a horde of zombies, you just have to understand the controls are part of the experience, they are easy to use, you're just not meant to move insanely fast and circle strafe zombies, after all, they only have melee attacks for the most part, I don't know why people complain though, RE4 was basically the same, RE5 only adds more enemies but it made Chris a little more nimble and added a permanent sidekick.

I agree on the first two points, although a single save increases the pucker factor. I bought a memory card expressly to keep a backup. Maybe a PP bonus based on number of saves and/or time between them would create the proper incentives without being too onerous. The schedule is only tight when attempting to do all the scoops, and it's supposed to be difficult then.

Is the original Dead Rising available on arcade?
I don't think so, it's a $20 Platinum Hit.

Yeah, DMC3 was originally tough, but that wasn't really due to frustrating game mechanics. The fighting was extremely tight and the controls were responsive. Also, I didn't think the orb system was flawed in the least.

However, Capcom still shows that it usually panders to the crowd when it released the second, much easier, edition of DMC3.

Chiming in here as another supporter for a better save system and no time limit bullshit. I am confident that they have learned their lesson, but nothing is certain until release. It will be a deal breaker when it comes to my purchase.
