Dead Rising 2 may have as many as 6,000 zombies on screen?

At a presentation about the visual technology behind the development of ?Dead Rising 2,? the game?s character art lead, Izmeth Siddeek, said that the development team at Blue Castle games is preparing for players to encounter an unprecedented zombie horde. ??Dead Rising 2' deal with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game,? he said. ?Everything else needed to be subordinated to this requirement.?

His presentation focused on how software called Mental Mill enabled Blue Castle to efficiently render many characters in visually distinct ways. The software is helping the makers of this zombies-in-a-casino action game to present a large number of characters without losing graphical quality and without having to take shortcuts that would put the game?s zombies in a small number of outfits.

In a postscript to the presentation, Laura Scholl, product manager for Mental Mill, said that Siddeek said that the ?Dead Rising 2? development team is preparing to have as many as 6000 characters on the screen. Siddeek did not say whether that figure was accurate.

That's alot of dead folks...didn't really like the first game though (I think I'm the only person who feels that way) so it doesn't hold much pull for me.

wonder if this will be similar to how gears2 they could have over 100 guys on the screen at once, but ended up being more of a tech demo and didn't really come into play at all in the game (and when it did it was just a shooting gallery with the chain gun).

grr. i still need to play the first one. i have it still sealed in the case. i need to open that sucker up.

6000 is a bit silly. Even in the total war games, when you had 6000 men on the battlefield, they were hardly more than a few pixels wide, so if this is supposed to still be third person, 6000 is so far beyond realistic that it might as well be 600,000.

I just finally played the demo (not huge zombie game or movie fan) and I liked it. I will just rent it and make it my game of the week though.

There wouldn't be many viable options from a game play standpoint. Regardless of if it was in campaign or horde, what firepower could we use to keep from getting swamped by that many? 5 mortar or 500 grinder ain't gonna even that out, though on casual and maybe normal, maybe widdle them down enough to be manageable?.

They could have had a scenario where you have the troykas and they charge you, with the objective being to clear them out before they overrun your position, but other than that, it is just too many grubs to handle at once.

I can't imagine 20 grubs all focusing their fire on a single player, you'd be kibble and bits instantly.

Maybe they'll release it for the PS3 this time? The first one was the only 360 exclusive that I wanted to play.

I didn't like it either. Didn't care for the timer. I want a timer-free Dead Rising!

Wii version??? lol

But yea there is no reason to have so many zombies on screen unless it's a cutscene and you're on top of the mall and looking out at it to see them all coming towards the mall.

If not on PS3, at least bring it to PC. I hope they bring the shower head back for round 2. 😛
