This is coming up at 39.99 when I add it to the cart.... Is there a rebate involved, or am I missing something?
😕

a.) Gamespot is hardly a viable reference when it comes to reviewing true racing sims

b.) They make it sound like Papyrus folded on their own, but the reality is that the corporate greedsters (read: EA Sports and also SONY) sucked up the rights to the most popular racing series, NASCAR & F1, effectively neutering Papyrus.

To this day, no one else has come close to the "engine" that Kaemmer (spelling ?) and company first developed for Grand Prix Legends and subsequently used as the basis for their later NASCAR titles.

Thank goodness that Papy's sims are so "open", the hardcore sim racing community of developers has kept the Papy titles alive and relevant/up-to-date.

Now EA Sports is doing the same thing with the NFL franchise. An exclusive 5 year deal or some such. No more ESPN NFL (2K5 was decent IMHO). :frown:

I've heard the guys from project wildfire were hired by easports to develop the new nascar game. hopefully this is true if ea has any chance. I still dont think ea can take down papy's old game. As long as there is someone out there who keeps modding the papy sim, im staying there.

So it is by the Nascar Thunder people. Anyone tried the demo? Is it better than Papy's Nascar 2003?

One page recommends a 2Ghz, another a 3.2 (and GF 6800).

Really? Do they just update the drivers, or make other improvements? What is the best website for them?

They update everything.

I have Nascar 2003 but I don't play it as often as I do GPL so I'm not up to date as to where to get the best places for them.

You should check out GPL too though...

Here's a 'modded' demo 😀

I've tried the demo, the graphics are nice. You can only play indy and kansas though...

Nothing beats the realism of Payprus though..............

Circuit City will have this game for $29.99, this Friday and Saturday in-store only. For what it's worth, IGN rated it a 9.2. Gamespot wasn't so gracious, but they rarely are with PC games, they gave it a 8.5.

I liked the Papyrus NR series and ESPN NFL series just as much as the next guy, but for those showing hate toward EA for the reason they're gone, it's misplaced. If you find the need to hate, it's Nascar and the NFL you really should call out. Nascar and the NFL are the ones requiring exclusive licenses, and EA just happened to have the deepest pockets to pay for such posh licenses. And yes, unsubstantiated rumor has it that EA may have lobbied them for such exclusivity, but that doesn't negate the fact that Nascar and the NFL ultimately made the decision to do so.
