You can return the drive even if you install it and take it around the block a couple of times. in past CD-RW deals from OM, people have return drive after they use they without any problem, and I have never heard someone say that OM wouldn't take back the drive because it had been opened.

Also I think that it a bad drive, it just that there's almost no infomation on what kind of performamce you can expect from a BTC mfg drive.

officeMax's Return Policy (from their web site)

If you are not satisfied with your OfficeMax.com purchase, simply return it to us in the complete and original packaging (together with all accessories and manuals) with your original sales receipt within 30 days of the date of purchase. We will gladly replace or repair the item, or return your money. Electronics, digital cameras and business machines must be returned within 14 days of purchase. OfficeMax.com will not accept returns of opened digital cameras or software packages unless defective. Software and digital cameras that are defective may be exchanged for identical items only.

Products that are purchased on OfficeMax.com may be returned to an OfficeMax store location for a credit refund. Product returns may be exchanged if the originally purchased product is in stock at the store location.

BTC = crap
I bought one once, broke within a week.
Returned it, for another one, broke within a week.
returned it again for another one, broke within a week.

Not only did they stop functioning, but they ate the cd's I put in the drive.
they wore the edges off of the CD's.

Your're right the Polaroid 24x drive is no longer on their web site. I guess a lot of people did like this drive to have bought them all up in a day and a half or they didn't have a lot in stock.

Of course you can probably find plenty of the drive at OfficeMax stores, but the trick is to get the store manager to except the $25 on-line discount coupon.

I believe that everyone who ordered it sunday morning, will get it on tuesday.
Mine should arrive today, I hope it is not BTC. Nevertheless, they better give
me the one in the picture.

Or what? About all you can do is return it and waste some of their time. I hope you guys get the lite-on. That way, at least they will exist in their system, and those of use that got the other will be able to moan until we get our lite-on.

I received mine about 20 minutes ago.

Model No. BCE 2410IM
Manufactured by TOP-G
MTK SuperLink equiped
NTI CD-Maker Software

I believe it to be a Traxdata. From what I have seen on Deja, it is a piece. Does anybody have anything to say besides, "return it"?

I am trying to look up more info on the drive but wanted to get this out for people to see.

Or I will return it silly. I would also ask them to find me the one that is advertised with Smart Burn technology.

BTW: Not only is smart-burn in the picture, but the product description states only two things:
*The Ultimate Solution for CD Storage
*Smart Burn technology for optimal quality, eliminates buffer underrun

I don't think anybody got a LiteOn. A few friends who got these received their drives today and they were all BCE2410IM and says Smartlink on the box.

Good news is, these things will be nega-cheap the second time around when BM tries to sell their returned stock (and they better take mine back after false advertising).

Bad news is, even if they're more inexpensive next time around they are still crap. I better hurry up and get to my B&M before the flock of returns happen.

<< what a major upset.. goddamn it..gonna return it... >>

Let's see, the drive was never advertised as a Lite-On. No one has ever seemed to have gotten a Lite_On under this brand. Don't be too upset, OfficeMax did not let you down. In this (and other games) you play and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Has anyone (besides riznick) install the drive and burned a few CDs to see how the BTC mfg drive performs? (you can still return it), If you have the latest copy of NERO burning software, you can use the NERO toolkit app to run test on the drive and post the results.

Received mine today. MTK SuperLink on the box, and TOP-G on the drive itself. I'm building a low-cost system this weekend, and since it'll be seldomly used, this drive should work out fine.
