*DEAD* Playstation 3 purchase comes with $100 Walmart giftcard

Starting last week, there is a deal going on that will last through this Saturday (June 14th) where if you buy ANY Blu-Ray player (including the 40GB or the brand new MGS4 80GB bundle), you will receive a $100 store card.

I can personally confirm that you get the card when you buy the MGS4 bundle, as I did this morning at midnight. I didn't even have to ask for it, the system prompted the employee to include it. $500 +tax out the door, and an extra $100 in Walmart money in my pocket. Supplies seem to be extremely limited on the bundle, as many people report their Walmarts as not having received any yet at all.

The 80GB bundle includes:

Metal Gear Solid 4 game
80GB PS3 (which includes software-driven backward compatibility on PS2 games, roughly 85%)
Dual Shock 3 controller
Composite cables (yuck -- pick up your own Component or HDMI cables)
Ethernet cable
USB cable to charge your controller
Power cord

My receipt shows that I have TWO items: the bundle and the store card, so you won't be able to scam them, scammer.

Also, the MGS4 game says, "NOT FOR RESALE" on the back. So keep that in mind if you have evil, scammish thoughts in your heads.

EDIT -- A poster from Canada said his Walmart isn't doing the $100 store card promotion. Not sure if this is a Canada-wide thing or just his store.

How can you double up when the CC offer is for Sonystyle stores or online only? Am I missing something?

Ignoring the gift card deal for a second, is the upcoming 80GB PS3 a significantly better deal? I don't need PS2 compatibility as the last console I owned was an Atari 2600 LOL. 😀

Still a decent deal. Ps3 for 299.99 and you get MGS4, and the with 100$ GC you can get another 2 games(or close to). Pretty decent deal.

there's a thread on slickdeals about it. Sony/Chase has varying links to apply through with various promotions. if you apply on sonystyle.com its only for sonystyle B&M or online.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 80GB version will be BC, but not to the same degree that the 60GB version was. The 80GB version is software emulated while the old 60GB version was hardware. The 80GB vesion will be about 85-90% BC.

I went to wally world this morning and got in on this deal. Rang up $422 after taxes and the gift card rang up $100 - $100. And it can be used for anything in the store.

I'm going to sit on this and not open it for a week. The rumors of them offering the same gift card next week with teh 80GB MGS4 bundle is just too temping. If they do I'll pick it up and take the 40GB back.

I picked it up this morning as well. We had a bit of trouble because the store's system was not updating properly and was automatically ringing up the GC as $100 and then charging for it. After about an hour of them trying different stores it just started working.
