hi,

i got a used 19" samsung 950p (CRT) off ebay. It's an awesome monitor, *almost* perfect...great monitor.

However it has this tiny, tiny dead pixel in the middle of the screen. (Hardly noticeable). I dont think i'll bother returning since i noticed most of the times there are some dust particles etc. on the screen anyway which are much more apparent than this one tiny dead pixel. (So it's mostly psychological to worry about it guess :) )

I was just wondering how common this problem is with CRTs (LCDs/TFTs i know)...because my former monitor had a dead pixel, too, brandnew right out of the box.

Would they even exchange it (assuming i'd send it to Samsung) because of one dead pixel ? Could i even exchange it after i bought the monitor off ebay ? I have all warranty cards etc. but they haven't been sent in...i dont have any receipts, tho. I also know it's a discontinued model......just curious..

greetings

I'd say I've seen them in about 10% of the monitors. Give or take a few percent.

Many places won't take the CRT back if it only has one bad spot. When you get a monitor with 2 or more, I think you have a good chance of them accepting a return.

A dead pixel on a CRT monitor is more common than you may think although far less than on an LCD.

There are no ?pixels? on a CRT monitor. On shadow mask monitors there are phosphor dots one red, green and blue that make up what is called a triad. In AG monitors there are stripes of phosphor. If one of these dots is missing or damaged or a small section from an AG stripe is missing, a small dark spot can be seen.

Gosharkss, you neglected to mention if Monitors Direct accept a CRT return with 1 bad spot...

Our policy is simple. If you are unhappy with the unit for any reason within the first 30 days we will take the unit back, replace it or refund your money.
