dead pixel fix?

thats why I hate to buy another LCD. I have a perfectly fine 19" but I want a 22" but am afraid of dead/stuck pixels. I don't think I'll be able to live with it if I got a LCD with one. But I guess it depends on where its located.

I'm with you, when i finally worked up the nerve to get my first LCD, i bought a Hitachi 19" online, and after setting it all up in anticipation, i found 1 bad green pixel in the dead center of my screen.

I sent it back for a refund and have stuck with my CRT since, or until it dies on me.



 
Viewsonic VX2025M...no dead/stuck pixels. I like.

To fix a dead pixel, either flash it from one color to another REALLY fast (there are programs/videos that do this), or rub on/around it.
 
3 LCD's.... one Tevion, one LG and one HannsG. 15", 17" and 19" widescreen respectively. None dead or unstickable so far. Looking at around 2 - 2 1/2 years on the oldest monitor there.

yeah thats what I did with my viewsonic and lucked up. IDK if it can do it again though especially on a $300+ monitor. But I guess I will have to because I would rather chance it and have warranty then buying used and having no warranty. Yeah buying used your almost guaranteed no issues but what if it dies completely a month down the road?

AFAIK most LCD companies only warrant the original purchaser.
 
If you ever had one of those great CRTs with the thin lines going across the screen, you'd remember how they completely bugged you for the first couple of hours of using it. But after that you never really noticed them again.

A dead pixel is like 1/1680 of one of those lines. The only time I ever noticed a dead pixel on any LCD was when working on an all-white background (next to never) or if it was located right in the center.
 
I have one dead one on the lower left section of my 22' widescreen panel

I don't even notice it unless I'm staring at it. It doesn't show up on black screens, so I cant even notice it when I'm watching a movie.

I've noticed though that at times the corners of your vision blur when you focus on an object in the center of the screen (not sure what effect that is) This really makes it difficult to notice.

Now if the thing were smack dab in the center of the screen, I couldn't stand that.

You could always order from a place like NCIX that offers a 30 day zero-dead pixel warranty. I just bought a Samsung 22" widescreen from them, and the total warranty cost (ExpressRMA and Zero Dead Pixel warranties) was $33 CDN (roughly $28 US). The monitor didn't have any dead/stuck pixels, but the extra cost was definitely worth it. Monitors are pretty much the only computer "component" that I keep for 3+ years.
