I just checked OM website at it shows a $40 rebate on the PD DVDRW starting on Sunday.
Is it possible that the $40 instant rebate is actually a MIR or could there be both an IR and MIR.

Update for the NEC - the serial number includes some alpha characters after the 41 such as 41A32.....

Picked one up today with that pattern. Other posts also mentioned same pattern.
