Firmware is not "supposed" to be for increasing the speed. That is just an added benefit. Firmware is for increasing the media that the drive will handle well. I just got a Lite-On drive and it would only burn the media I had at 24x. I flashed firmware and it would do it at the proper 48x. Also, if I'm not mistaken these drives are the 5 chipset rather than 6 and you need the 6 chipset to get 52x so speed increase may not even be an option.

If you buy ones of these at a staples b&m, try to get them to pricematch to BestBuy's price of $59.99, I did it today and it puts my cost down to $10!! :)

Nice looking out, I saw that price Sunday but when I clicked the buy buttom I got a "item not available" message.

What I would do is print the Best Buy page with the drive on it LINK and take it to a staples store and tell them you want to PM to the Best Buy "store" not the web site or they may try to add shipping charges. They may want to call BB to see if it in stock so you might want to go to the store with you know BB will be to busy to anwser their phone which is amost all the time.

To save a little more you can add the Optimum 48x 80 Minute CD-R Spindle, 100/Pack $21.98 - $20 MIR = $1.98 and use the $15 off $75 printable email coupon making your final cost $6.98 + tax

yeah, i called bestbuy first to make sure they had one in stock, staples always seems to try and pull the "they are out of stock" excuse when it comes to PM's.

If you want a staples in-store coupon, try signing up for their business rewards program. They email coupons to you regularly for in-store use.

Asking for coupon codes and giving coupon codes breaks the rules here but typically you can find coupons by searching the web. Try putting in the details to google and see what you get. You also might get more explicit responses to this question if you turn on your PMs by editing your profile. ;)

Hmmm....I wonder if I'll find any surprise presents (cough) *PM*(cough, cough)...

You may want to give your local BB a call to see if their price is lower than BB online. My brother is working on this deal and he found it at $39 +tax. So a PM with Staples with coupons and the $40 rebate means you're earning money... :D

Does the B&M BB have the same price for $59.99? Because when I looked in this week's ad, I see that there is a 48x16x48 Pacific Digital CD Writer for $69.99-$30MIR-$20MIR=$19.99, but no 48x12x48 CD writer. Also, doesn't Staples give you a hassle about PM and using a ($10 off $40 or $15 off $75) coupon anyhow?

If I buy a 2nd drive and my name shows up on the Billing and Shipping address, but I let someone else fill out for the rebate and have it sent to their place in their name, would both rebates still go through? Or will they look at the Billing & shipping address on the receipt and void both rebates because I purchased both drives?

Heeding this advice, I went to Best Buy (Burbank) after work to see for myself. I arrived to find the
store shelves empty of any Pacific Digital CDRW drives, and all that remained was a shelf tag for
it...and the price read $39.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Immediately, I pulled the tag from the protective plastic layer, stuffed it into my pocket and headed
over to Staples to see if the model #s matched. I got to Staples and sure enough, my suspicions were laid to rest...an exact match. And the rest is history.

$69.94 (Staples price)
-29.95 (Price Guarantee)
========================
$39.99 (Subtotal)
+ 3.30 (8.25% tax)
==================
$43.29 TOTAL
-40.00 (Staples MIR)
====================
$ 3.29 (Cost after rebate)
+ .37 (Stamp)
==========================
$ 3.66 FINAL COST

The best part was that the lady at Staples didn't even bother calling Best Buy to see if they had it in
stock.

Called Staples today to try to get a PM on to my local BB by phone... Staples says that they apply all rebates to the product before considering a PM... :|

You'll prolly have better luck in stores if they still have any in stock. None of my Staples have... :(

Try downloading Nero at http://www.nero.com and see if a later updated installer would fix the problem. If not, it might be your computer configuration. :frown:

That isn't the serial #, that's the model # and as stated above, that is a Lite-On. The serial # is the 12 digit code on the side of the box (and should be on the drive itself)

it is a Liteon. I bought one (it was a cdr-5w48) and flashed the firmware to a liteon...no problems. this drive is not supported by older versions of nero, anyone having problems with nero needs to DL the latest version.
