I had 2 separate 400's in my cart figuring I could order when I found out about the AGP. I just went to order one of them and my cart is empty. Originally it said this cart is good until 8/20.

I never knew that they go into your cart and empty it when they no longer feel like selling it to you. Guess I'll wait for fall price drops and build my own.

Their system is pretty good, they can cancel your configuration right up until it's paid for. I once had once disappear towards the end. Crappy experience, but I guess they realized it was costing them mucho cash to build and ship these things.

Their cost for the chip alone has got to be >$600 in quanitity..

Is this deal still alive? No 3.2 but the 2.8C is still there for $100.

I don't think I could build a 2.8C i875 computer with 1 Gig CSA networking for $474

Or can I?

Nevermind: I do an update price and the total is 474 for the 2.8C system.

Do an "add to cart" and it jumps to 574.

Don't know if it is dell or mozilla.

Edit2: ok now it's working. go figure. 2.8C for $474. looks good to me but think I'll wait for something that's not as shakey as this server/workstation deal. Good luck to all that jumped on it.....

What's "shakey" about it? The hard part's been qualified, it's an intel 875 w/agp, sata and whatnot. This is a state of the art quality box disguised as a server.

Still a good deal with the 2.8 in it, just not quite as hot.

Order confirmations will come, they're probably a little behind on things...

Got my confirmation. Usually confirmations are html'ized and pretty, these look like they were cranked out by hand. I have a ship date of 8/1, but it has yet to enter production. They might have payment issues because I have a daily charge limit on trhe card I gave them. Did yours go into production?

None the less, w00t, we're in!

Dear Sox,

Thank you for your internet order! Here is some important information relating to
your order that should be used in any future communications with Dell:

Important Order Information
----------------------------------
Your Dell customer # is: XXXXXXX
Your order number is: XXXXXXXX
Your total amount for the order you placed is: $620.28
This includes:
Subtotal: 0
Shipping/Handling: 0
Sales Tax: $47.28
*SEE TAX INFORMATION SECTION

If you ordered any software and add-on items from the online Software & Add-Ons
catalog (DellWare), you should receive a separate order confirmation for those
items shortly.

Payment Information
-------------------------
If you have chosen to pay for your order by credit card, a charge for the order
amount indicated will be submitted to your card issuer and will be charged when
your order ships.

Your order will go into production as soon as an authorization is received from
your credit card company. You might want to give your credit card company a call
to let them know you are making a large purchase. Sometimes credit card companies
will not authorize large credit card purchases for security purposes
if such large charges do not match your prior buying patterns.

Estimated Ship Date
-------------------------
Although we do not anticipate a delay in your order, we cannot guarantee the
shipping date
because occasionally we run into unexpected delays in manufacturing.

We would not expect any delay to extend beyond 30 days from the date
of your order and if this should happen, we will keep you posted on
the status of your order.

Mine has not actually gone into production yet either. Perhpas they don't sell a lot of servers (compared to desktops) so maybe this putting a little bit of stress on their production schedule.

Shakey in that features we want: Cheap non ECC ram, SATA, and AGP are not supported by dell.

Skakey in that Dell won't support XP pro on this server, so if you have any driver problems you are on your own.

Shakey in that Document pointed at for entry server 875 board says ECC ram only so my plain old DDR ram I have may be useless with this board. $200 for RAM cools the deal.

So buy this server, flush out your super PC with a radeon 9800, a SATA Raptor 10,000RPM, fast non-ecc ram, install XP Pro, get lockups every 10 seconds, call dell support, describe your configuration:

Response: Click dialtone.....

Great value for the $$$$ IF everything works for you. If not you are on your own.

"of course the game is rigged but if you don't play you can't win" RAH.

Dell's online docs clearly shows 6 USB ports in the back w/ one net connection. There's no mention of both 100/1000 NICs. This server board has both. There are multiple versions of the board. The only difference I can find is that one has Serial ATA, the other doesn't. Either the docs are crap, or it's not this Intel board.

I didn't have the guts to jump on this deal before the AGP port was confirmed, and I wasn't fast enough afterwards. I hope Dell will reward me with a good deal on a Dimension 8300 and the 1901 LCD soon :)

That link for the motherboard is not the correct one, the board is confirmed as having five PCI slots, the link show the board as having three because it is a MATX board and not the ATX board that is being sold with the system.

I'm hoping for the same thing as well. Their quarter is ending on July 31st so hopefully they will come out with some nice offers in order to boost their revenues.

I too waited for the AGP confirmation and missed the 3.2 cpu. I did however go ahead with a 2.8 version this morning. At $448 plus $29 tax, free shipping it's still a good deal knowing it has a real AGP slot.

I went ahead and ordered the vanilla 400SC (P4 2.26GHz, 128MB, 40GB, $349) to do some testing at work. Placed the order at 10:00PM EST last night, and the computer shipped 16 hours later :Q
