My anecdotal evidence is that I have not had a ram kit fail to run JEDEC going back to OG Zen. I've lost track of how many AM4 builds I have done. Fair number of different brand and speed kits. 2 and 4 slot setups.

Misidentifying the reason for failure certainly happens, but I don't think any of it would get past experienced builders like the 3 tech tubers I linked.
