I have the rebadged Lexmark E210 with a little less memory, 4mb instead of 8mb, and like it. I just had my aunt buy one and she likes it, Samsung that is.

I have the E210 which is basically the same printer.

The only problem I have found are the replacement toner cartridges are very exspensive, BUT you can pick up toner refill kits for alot cheaper and if your lucky and get the older toner cartridge style, it's as simple as removing the plug and putting in new toner.

Cheapest place for toner refills I have is http://www.tonerkits.com/, I have bought from them before and their kit is great for the price. You also have http://www.tonerrefillkits.com/ who are a little more exspensive.

and for details on refilling the cartridge... http://www.rechargermag.com/article.asp?id=200205014

Thanks bigempty. That's very helpful.

Say, how much do new cartridges cost and how long do they last in the first place? I assume the printer comes with a cartridge when purchased, right?

If you have a home office or make a lot of copies of documents this is a good quality printer. Just keep in mind that its not a color printer and that the cartridges are around eighty bucks each! You might want to try to figure out how many copies that you can get per cartridge, or consider the refill trick as suggested in the previous post.

Hi, i bought this printer back when the deal was for around $90. Its been great. It prints really fast, and its not like those InkJet Manufac. who say "10ppm" but only print about 3.

The catridge is like $60 at BB, but it was worth it.

Excellent printer.

This thing is fast compare to my old HP6L. :) The only thing I don't like is the software or printer is kind of slow or(don't) of giving u error message when U print over the network. but this printer is very good and doesn't jam paper like the HP does. I bought it for 99 dollars from Fry's a few months ago and it is worth every penny. No more HP printer for me :) Maybe next time, i will say goodbye to Sony TV and get a Samsung TV :)

This printer doesn't support PCL, just Samsung's own printer commands - correct?

According to the Samsung web site, the 1210 has been obsoleted, so this is a close-out. The apparent remaining low ends are the 1250 (which has PCL6, and does 1200x600, but comes with only 4MB RAM (expandable, though) and is ~$160 shipped from EMS), and the 1430 (which is a bit faster at 15ppm, but otherwise seems similar to the 1210, and is ~$185 from EMS). I don't see any point to the 1430 over the 1210 (3ppm isn't worth $55 to me), but PCL may be worth $30, even if I have to add some memory - anyone know what it uses?

Does anyone have a suggestion for another cheap (<$250, pref <<$250) laser printer? It must be a real printer, not a Win printer. Important items, not necessarily in order are: print quality (for text and simple graphics), print speed, cost of consumables, compatibility (I know I'm not gettting Postscript at that price, but PCL would be nice), reliability, size. Nice would be memory expandability, availability of an automatic duplexing attachment, availability of a Ethernet interface (like HP Jetdirect). HP 1000 is a Win printer, and HP 1200 is too expensive, so they're both out.

I'm not sure whether the Brother 1440 is a Win Printer, but it can be bought for $199 if you wait. Officemax periodically drop the price from $299 to $249, then combine that with a $50 off $250 coupon.

That's basically what I did. It has been one of the best computer parts I have ever bought! :)

I also recommend buying the High yield toner cartridge High yield toner cartridge ~6000 pages.

cost of operation is about $0.01 to $0.015 per page. :D
